With our new year’s resolutions in full swing, a popular choice is to better your well-being in some way. Becoming ‘that girl’ is a common trend so here are some tips to help you achieve that feeling and continue your journey to betterment.
What is it?
Originating as a TikTok hashtag trend, ‘that girl’ is a collection of videos promoting wellness and encouraging viewers to emulate their morning routines to better themselves.
Being ‘that girl’ means trying to be the best version of yourself and prioritizing things that serve you and help you to progress in your career or personal life. Whilst some of their posted routines seem unachievable, there are some tips you can take from them that don’t seem to take the entire day.
Your own schedule
Sometimes 24 hours in a day doesn’t feel enough, and when it feels a bit impossible you’ll see a video from ‘that girl’ and wonder how she does it.
Waking up early and getting your day started at 5 am isn’t achievable or attractive for most people, however, the idea behind it is sound. Rather than trying to change your habits and sleep routine, it may be easier to try and carve out time elsewhere in your day.
If you use a daily planner, you may want to block out some time for yourself. Making it permanent in a visual way means you are less likely to plan things that encroach on that time. You could use this time to do a hobby you love, read a book or catch up on your favourite show. It doesn’t have to be anything profound as long as it makes you happy.
Practice self-care
Self-care can cover a lot of different things from a great sleep routine, a skincare regime that you follow, or an invigorating session in the gym. As long as it makes you feel cared for spiritually, emotionally, and physically then you are following the ‘that girl’ mentality.
One thing you could work into your life is dressing nicely for yourself. Whenever we think of dressing nicely we imagine an event or a reason. Why shouldn’t that reason be yourself? It could be something small such as prioritising comfort with a black bralette instead of a more traditional bra. Or you could wear a dress that is saved for more special occasions to a coffee date with a friend. Whatever you choose, it should make you feel great.
Find a balance
As with everything in life, a healthy balance can be hard to strike. If you have a really busy lifestyle, setting aside 10 minutes a day for yourself may be enough to help you feel cared for and calmer.
A lot of these ideas may feel odd to add into your routine initially but if you give yourself enough time to get used to self care then they should slot into your life as if they were always there.
