Looking for the hottest hairstyles and hair trends for Fall 2010? Look no further! Here at The Fashionable Housewife, we have all the info on the latest hair trends, right here with detailed information on each style and how to make it work for you.

Hairstyling this season definitely has a purpose with a theme aiming towards natural texture. Mix it up this season and choose a brand new look from the list of hair styles below.

Flat Ironed Chignon

The chignon is polished and can be worn tight or loose to the head. It’s a totally fashionable look that is easy to re-create and wear for daytime or evening. This look was shown at the Calvin Klein Fall 2010 show and looked great on all the models. To get this chic look, just flat iron the hair, pull the hair into a low ponytail while making sure to keep the hair smooth, and finish by folding hair back into itself and securing with bobby pins. Use a light hold hair spray to keep flyaways at bay.

Classic Bun

The bun itself is clean and contemporary – not just for ballet class! The Classic Bun is perfect for all occasions as well as everyday wear. A great example of the classic bun was see on the BCBG Fall 2010 runway. The look is great for everyday wear and yet is contemporary enough for formal occasions and evenings out on the town. To style the classic bun, start by securing your hair in a ponytail with an elastic, either high or low, depending on your preference. Then simply twist your hair and hold it tight while wrapping it around the base of your ponytail (where the elastic is). Secure it with another elastic in a shade that is similar to your hair color and finish off with a few bobby pins. We recommend getting small and large bobby pins for extra security. Finish with a light hair spray to preserve your look. For fun, try accessories to create personal style and glamor.

Pompadour

The Pompadour is a beautiful formal look, especially taken from Fendi’s Fall 2010 show. Gel and other hair products with a stronger hold will work well in creating this hairstyle. Start by washing hair with a volumizing shampoo. Towel dry and then blow dry volume into your hair with your head upside down being sure to lift that root area. Use a volumizing mousse if you have one handy. Secure the hair up into the crown area, carefully backcomb everything up and smooth the hair a little. Finish by twisting the hair and securing with bobby pins. Don’t forget a light spritz of hair spray to hold your sexy style!

Retro Curls & Waves

Retro inspired hairstyles are going to be really hot for Fall 2010. Keep styles loose with deliberate direction and take cues from the Dior Fall 2010 runway. At Dior show, the ’30s-inspired waves were reminiscent of the Hollywood glamour of Jean Harlow. Timeless and sexy for sure! For longer hair, try softer looks like Farrah Fawcett waves. They are a great look for an everyday style or something quick before a night out with your girlfriends. To create this easy look, simply section the hair into 2 inch sections and carefully apply a medium hold texturizing product. Using a small curling iron, carefully curl the hair. As you work toward the top of your head, loosen the curls up a bit or switch to a larger curling iron. When you are finished curling all your hair, just pull and push the curl to make it look slightly tousled and then spray with a light hold hairspray.

The Ponytail

For those of you wanting to show off your stunning features or just wanting to keep things simple, the ponytail is for you this season! This look was shown at the Louis Vuitton and Max Azria runways for Fall 2010 and is probably the easiest trend for this season. To get the look, simply gather all of your hair into a ponytail and secure with an elastic. After the ponytail is secure, spray with hairspray or use a small amount of hair gel into your hands run your hands over the hair in the same direction you did when gathering it into the ponytail. This will keep the look sleek while easily taming all the flyaways.

Fall 2010 Hair Cuts

This seasons hair cuts still allow easy styling while becoming a little less put together. We see hair getting longer as we move into fall. No matter what your hair desire, your cut always should be adapted to your individual style. Show off your texture this fall!

The Bob

The bob with bangs make this classic style modern and flattering to the persons wearing it. A low maintenance/ high fashion look. With the additional length, the bob becomes lower maintenance and easier to style. Beautiful examples of the longer Bob this fall are Eva Longoria & Reese Witherspoon. To recreate in a few minutes; Shampoo, apply a thermal protection product and a foundation product for hold (light, medium something to add texture), blow dry moving the hair across the head in both directions making sure to smooth the root area while giving some direction to the bangs, light finishing product to keep the ends smooth and you are ready! For fall think not so polished, create soft texture.

Shag/ Long Layer

The 70’s shag we saw in the spring is sticking around for the fall with all of the “Choppy Layers”. Always a versatile and sexy look, this cut is for texture lovers. This influence we see merged with the Bob to create the “Shaggy Bob”. Long or short bangs can be worn with this cut to compliment the face. Consistent with the texture present in this look the Bangs have a lot of texture too. Some celebrities wearing this look are Crystal Hunt and Faith Hill. To style the shag; shampoo, apply a thermal protecting product and a foundation product for medium to strong hold for best texture results, Blow-dry with your hands. Focus on the root area, creating lift at scalp first. Finish by positioning the texture intentionally to compliment the overall look, spray with light to medium hold hairspray & you are ready! For longer versions you can do Farrah Faucet like waves to complete the look.

Pixie/ Crop

The pixie with a longer front fringe, for fall 2010, this beautiful look is low maintenance, always fashionable and bold. In combination with the longer angled bangs this look will keep heads turning through the holidays. Working with texture creams this look will dry quickly and style easily looking fabulous this season. Some of the best examples of the pixie are Rhianna & Katie Holmes. To recreate this style; shampoo, apply a prep product for thermal protection, a foundation product for hold (light, medium, or strong hold), blow dry using your hands moving the hair in the direction you want it to finish in making sure to work the root area while giving some direction to the ends, light finishing product to keep the texture and you are ready!

This will keep the look Sleek while taming all the fly aways.

Fall 2010 Hair Color

Changing hair color, for most of us, is the easiest way to keep our current look updated without changing the cut. For fall keeping your hair color healthy and current is as easy as cooling and deepening the pre-existing tones.

You can still do your overall base color at home! However if you are working with any dimension, accents, or highlights you will need to schedule those salon visits now. For those of you really willing to learn how to do it all your self, check out tips on Herbal Essence. Clairol also has a huge selection of colors and styling tools to help you.

Red Hair

Reds this fall, keep it cool. Add cool tone highlights/ accents to create an updated look. We recommend a natural red, still bold, still strong, but natural. Clairol Herbal Essence Color, 048.5 Spicy Ginger-deep Intense Copper or Clairol Balsam Lasting Color Locking Creme System, Dark Auburn 613 are two beautiful shades for this fall. We also like Clairol Haircolor, Auburnin’ Hot – Auburn 35.

Blonde Hair

For those of you who love your blonde, no worries, cool it down with a few strategically placed low lights. To keep the look natural deepen the blonde just a little to keep it looking natural. Here are some natural looking blondes for fall. We recommend Clairol Hydrience Haircolor, Seashell 010 or Clairol Hydrience Haircolor, Sand Dollar 012. For those of you with color in your hair book an appointment with a professional for a partial high light & glaze.

We also like Clairol Hydrience Haircolor, Sunrise 004 or Clairol Hydrience Color, 014 Bamboo. For those of you with color already in your hair try an Herbal Essence Highlights Kit.

Brunettes

For fall Brunettes deepen the base color and keep some of the summer brunette tones as a highlight. The best way to do this is to have a professional work their magic. If you are doing this on your own and feel confident, section out some hair into foils with conditioner and use the darker color on hair not in foils. Then use another color on the hair in foils to get a shiny/ healthy color. We recommend Clairol Balsam Lasting Color Color Locking Creme System, Darkest Brown 616 1 system or Clairol Balsam Lasting Color Locking Creme System, Dark Ash Brown 614.

Spring / Summer 2010 Hair Cuts & Trends

This seasons hair cuts allow easy styling and are put together. Versatile hair we will see getting longer as we move into summer. No matter what your hair desire, your cut should be adapted to your individual style.

Modern Bob

Unlike last season this season’s bob is versatile with intent. Complimenting the individual style and face shape of the women wearing it. With variations in length (layers) making it easier to style and flattering to the person wearing this beautifully classic but modern shape. Still a low maintenance/ highest fashion look. The length range is “Versatile” depending on YOU! Some of the most beautiful examples of the Modern Bob are Maggie Gyllenhall & Naomi Watts. This is a style that can be done quickly. Shampoo, apply a prep product for thermal protection, a foundation product for hold (light, medium, or strong hold), blow dry moving the hair across the head in both directions making sure to smooth the root area, light finishing product to keep the ends smooth and you are ready!

Shag & Shaggy Bob

The 70’s shag comes back as “The Choppy Layer”. Always a versatile and sexy look, this cut is for texture lovers. This influence we see merged with the Bob to create the “Shaggy Bob”. Long or short bangs can be worn with this cut to compliment the face. Consistent with the texture present in this look the Bangs have a lot of texture too. Some of the best examples of this look are on Kimberly Caldwell and Kherington Payne. To style the shag shampoo, apply a prep product for thermal protection, a foundation product for medium to strong hold for best texture results, Blow-dry with hands drying the root area at scalp first. Finish by positioning the texture intentionally to compliment the overall look, spray with light to medium hold hairspray & you are ready!

Bangs/ Fringe- Angled & Short

Bangs are still hot! We can do swept, angled or cropped. The hottest bangs this season, are for those who want to make a BOLD statement. Shorter bangs yes shorter bangs with an angled line. Intentionally framing the face to accentuate the features for a strong look. Some of the best examples are found on Carey Mulligan and Morena Baccarin. Minimal styling needed. Shampoo, apply prep and foundation products then hand style, and you are ready!

Pixie

In 2010 if you really are comfortable with yourself and you really are ready to make yourself the “It girls of the Fashionable Housewives” then get the pixie. The low maintenance hairstyle that is fashionable and bold. In combination with the angled bangs this look will keep heads turning and looking to you for advice on the up and coming trends in your circle. Working with texture creams this look will dry quickly and style easily looking fabulous this season. Some of the best examples of the pixie are Morena Baccarin, Halle Berry and Carey Mulligan.

Half head shaved

This look is amazingly bold. Hot! Hot! Hot! Not a look that many can do, but if you are women who likes to go where no others dare, the “Half shaved” cut is for you!

This cut takes the deep part to the extreme, by shaving out the side of the head that was on the lighter side of the heavy part. Leaving the heavy side with all of that hair. The variation in length and texture is still versatile ranging from really long to short slicked back or heavy texture styles. Both of these styling options make the “Half Shaved” the boldest look of 2010. Some of the best examples are Sarah Harding and Cassie. If you are one of the women getting this look this season, I am not even going to pretend that you need help styling it. You are bold, you are Hot! You know yourself and you are one confident and Fashionable Women. Wear this one and enjoy the season.

Spring / Summer 2010 Hairstyles & Best Hair Trends

Looking for the hottest hairstyles and hair trends for 2010? We have them all right here with detailed information on each style and how to make it work for you.

Hairstyling this season has a purpose. Clean and finished are the themes for this seasons styling looks. Choose a new look from the list of hair styles below.

Loose Bun

This seasons looks reflected the classic look with a softer shape. Very clean but still not the tight librarian. This was a popular look in the Paris shows this season.

The bun is a variation of the Chignon (hair knot).

Flat Ironed Chignon

This is a beautiful look that is polished but not too tight to the head. Has a professional but fashionable look that with a little practice is easy to re-create. This look was shown at the Calvin Klein show this season.

Start by flat ironing the hair. Gather the hair medium to low in the back of the head into a ponytail. Create the smooth chignon and pin with bobby pins. Spray your hands with working hairspray and run them over the surface of the shape in the direction that the hair was placed in ponytail. This will give you that polished look for that fabulous Flat ironed Chignon.

Classic Bun

The classic bun is a very clean and crisp look. Tight ponytail low to medium placed on the back of the head. The bun itself is so clean and structured that it looks wet. The Classic Bun is great for a formal occasion or to add class to an everyday look. A great example of this was from the Chado Ralpho Rucci shows this season.

First put your hair in a ponytail, high or low will do. Then twist your hair, hold it like that, and wrap it around the base of your ponytail (where the elastic is). Then secure it with another elastic and a few bobby pins. We recommend getting small and large bobby pins for extra security.

Depending on the look you are going for, you can either do the initial ponytail tight, loose, or off-center. You can even spice it up a little and backcomb your hair with a little texturizing mousse and do everything loosely for a wonderfully feminine chignon.

You can even choose to use Bows, Pins, or hair bands. If you are wearing this hairstyle for a wedding or an evening event, there are many fancy hair accessories you can use to dress it up.

Pompadour

The Pompadour is an edgy look possibly suited for those of you who are wearing the “Half Shaved” look this season. Inspired from the signature Elvis look. Waxes and crème styling products with a stronger hold will work great in creating this look. With some you may have to tease the front of the hair and pin it in place to get that exaggerated shape of the pompadour.

Curls & Waves

Always a staple in each season’s looks are curls or waves. Loose with deliberate direction. Polished with a natural feel to the locks. If you are going to wear your hair long this season try this look for a versatile softness to your overall image. Great look for an everyday style or something quick before a night out with the ladies.

To get the look use a larger iron 1” to 1.5” and wrap the hair in a spiral pattern just to create a soft bend in the hair. Taylor Momsen wore this look during Fashion week.

Sleek High Ponytail

For those of you with beautiful bone structure and you want to get a temporary lift from a hairstyle try the sleek high ponytail. This look was shown at the Alexander Wang show this season.

To get the look tip your head upside down and while gathering all of your hair into a ponytail fastener high on top of the head. After the ponytail is secure, spray a wet or working hairspray into your hands and while the product is still damp run your hands over the hair in the same direction you did when gathering it into the ponytail. This will keep the look Sleek and tame all the fly aways.

Half Up Half Down Style

This style is a quick alternative to the complete up do that has all of the hair off of the face. A good look if you are not ready to part with all of that length for an evening. Some great examples were shown at the DKNY shows this season.

To get the ½ up style gather the hair in front of the head just above the ears into a ponytail medium to higher in the back of the head. Place it into a ponytail or twist into a chignon in the back of the head. Fasten into place with a few bobby pins.
