What To Wear With Holiday Nail Art

I wanted to do my nails ALL WEEK, but life got in the way…

When I saw that Jamberry had Valentine’s Day Nail Wraps, I was pretty excited. Unfortunately, I didn’t get them on my nails before the big holiday hit. I kinda want to wear them anyway though… The hearts are so cute!

Do you think I would look silly with Valentine’s Day hearts on my nails the week after the holiday has ended? Their Valentine’s Day nail art stickers are sooo cute! Check out this one…

Jamberry has some really cute Easter Nail Shields too that I can’t wait to try. Maybe I will actually get them on my nails before Easter arrives!

The only problem I ever face when I have nail art of any kind on my nails is that I feel the need to match my outfit to my nails. I’m afraid that a print on my nails will clash with my outfit and ruin whatever “look” I’m trying to creative.

Do you have that problem too? Or do you just ignore your nails and dress however you want?

Bellapierre Cosmetics Nail Color – Engine Gray

Looking for the perfect neutral gray nail polish? This one is gorgeous but I got some interesting results…

This nail color from Bellapierre Cosmetics is the perfect grey nail polish. It’s called “Engine Gray” and it’s a shimmery, metallic gray color that is just dark enough to be classy but not so dark that it’s creepy. I like it better on my nails then in the bottle…

Bellapierre Cosmetics Nail Polish

It was a little streaky after two coats, but I think that was from the brush, not the polish itself. The brush had a stray, straggly bristle on it that I had to cut off, so that may have affected the brush performance.

Even though it was a little streaky, I loved the color A LOT! It looked great, it seemed like it was going to hold up well. Unfortunately, it did NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Nail Polish: Sephora by O.P.I. in “Dark Room”

I polished my nails with SEPHORA by OPI Nail Colour in ‘Dark Room’ on Monday. (Check it out on Instagram!) It was my first time using this particular color, even though I purchased it at least a year ago. I kinda have a nail polish obsession… I keep buying it… and then buying more… And I might need a 12 step program for this, but anyway…

It took 2 coats to make it look even. The application was quite thin so it dried quickly. I was not happy with the overall results, but I did love the color. After a day, it looked dull, almost matte. This color is so dark, it really needed a high shine to it. I ended up applying a good coat of Sally Hansen Mega Shine. It looked a lot better after that.

Now it’s been a week and I ended up with a few chips on the tips, so I touched them up. I was pretty bored with this color in general so I decided I’d mix things up a bit and throw on London Butter Matte Finish Topcoat. The results? Definitely worth sharing!

I liked this MUCH better. It looked fine for a little while with a high shine top coat, but it just seemed to get dull again and look boring. Putting a matte top coat on really made it funky. Who would have thought that a shine free topcoat would have fixed it? Well, I love it.

COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss 7 Day Challenge

I was challenged by COVERGIRL to go topless! Without a top coat of nail polish, that is…

Their latest breakthrough product is COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss that promises high gloss color that lasts as long as one week with no top coat needed!

I have to admit, when I opened up the package from Covergirl with the new polish and read the enclosed documents claiming up to 7 days of color with no top coat needed, I scoffed… Nail polish doesn’t usually last more than 3 days, TOPS, on my nails… between dishes and housecleaning and lots and lots of typing, my manicures don’t stand a snowballs chance in hell!

So I accepted their 7 Day challenge, picked one of the three colors of nail polish they sent me to try out and polished my nails.

My first impression was fairly positive. I liked the consistency of the polish and how it applied. I didn’t think I would like the bulky square cover, but upon inspection realized that the square cover actually comes OFF and a slim little cover remains that is easy to wield. I didn’t realize this till after I applied the first coat, but luckily, the big square cover didn’t seem to impede my application or steadiness of hand…

The first coat dried relatively quickly but the second coat did not and I ended up smudging one of my nails. I don’t know if I was supposed to apply one or two coats, but the first coat I applied quite thin so I decided a second coat was needed. Next time, I might just apply one coat a little thicker and see how that goes…

Here are snapshots from my 7 day challenge…

When I got to day 3 and my nails still looked amazing with no chips, I was super impressed… I mean, really, really impressed. On day 4 after doing a lot of housework and cleaning my kitchen from top to bottom, I noticed that the ends of my nails were starting to show some wear, but still no chips.

By the end of day 5 and giving both my kids a bath, I noticed a chip on my pointer finger which proceeded to get slightly bigger over the next 2 days.

By the end of a day 7, some areas around each nail were starting to fail, but overall, most of my nails still looked great. After taking the last picture for my 7 day challenge, I put one more coat of polish on top of everything and now 3 days later, my nails still look perfect. So technically this nail polish can last more than 7 days if you touch it up, which is more than I can say about most other nail polishes. I am extremely impressed with this nail polish!

In select stores now, you’ll find 15 shades of the new Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss. Expect to see an additional 30 shades in January 2013.

COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss will be available at mass-market retail outlets nationwide beginning in November 2012. For more information go to www.covergirl.com

Rock Your Vote Tomorrow, On your Nails!

It’s time to rock the vote tomorrow, Nov 6th and Americans are finding any way they can to show their support for their chosen party.

Whether spoken or unspoken, there are numerous ways to get into the political spirit and let the world know what you stand for. So what better way than to do it fashionably!?

Wearing your party’s color on your finger nails has become one of the hottest Fall trends this year as Democrats and Republicans (and even celebs such as Katy Perry, La La Anthony, Michelle Obama and Ann Romney) paint on the patriotism!

Show the world what team you’re on by sporting red or blue polish like these two new lacquers from Sheswai with awesomely unique wooden caps.

Fersure Red Polish and Stocked Blue Polish

We like Sheswai nail polish because it’s “3 free”—sans formaldehyde, toluene and DBPs. We also adore the richly pigmented, super glossy colors and the awesome caps that are custom made from sustainably harvested wood grown on family-owned tree farms. Retail: $16 / bottle. Get them at beautysage.com

Democracy is about participation, so we encourage you all to do your part and please remember to vote on Nov 6th. We’re not going to tell you who to vote for, but we ask that you consider the value of our founding father’s and the constitution when making your decision. ;-)
