June 28th, 2010 by Jaime Palmucci

I own a pair of Poetic License shoes, and they’re fantastic! The fit is great, the price is even better and I swoon over their styles. The line is just fun, a little young (but not childish) and really attractive!

Well, now you can get your hands on your very own pair of Poetic License shoes by heading over to ideeli today at 11am! Shoppers will be able to snag the best deals early, so get there right when the sale starts!

Here’s what ideeli had to say about the line:

Where will the fresh, quirky shoes by Poetic License lead your fashion-forward feet? To Chinatown, for a parade of paper dragons! To Venice, for a sail down a narrow canal in a gondola! Or perhaps you’ll find yourself in an aviary full of gorgeous birds of paradise, with resplendent plumage. Please excuse our, er, poetic license here-we’ve been inspired by this British label with a feel for the fantastic. Poetic License has been creating whimsical, distinctive shoes since 2005, bringing a unique take on classic British sensibilities mixed with the most vibrant global styles. A statement on their own, you’ll love the way you look in these unique pumps, platforms and sandals, whether you’re on a trip around the world, or just letting your thoughts wander. Take a little license!

Spring 2010 Bikini and Bathing Suit Trends

June 25th, 2010 by Jaime Palmucci

We all want to look our very best when we’re at the beach. After all, isn’t that when we’re most watched?

… maybe not, but it sure does feel that way, doesn’t it? While I haven’t gotten a new bikini in about two years, I’m definitely in the market for something new this season… and one of these trends fits right in for me! These are the top five swim trends for Spring/Summer 2010.

1. One Shoulder: This trend will probably be the easiest to find (at least at a great price point!) of the new styles, but for girls like me who need a lot of upper support, I wouldn’t recommend it.  I do, however, love the look of this Victoria’s Secret bikini from last year, and I’m hoping they’ll recreate something similar for 2010!

2. Monokinis: Silly name, but  a very sexy piece of swimwear that covers a bit more than your standard bikini! Typically, a Monokini is a bathing suit that has a slim piece of fabric attaching the bust to the bottoms. Why do I love this style? It’s flirty, fun and different from your standard bikini… plus, you can turn heads while wearing MORE bathing suit. Talk about awesome! I like the style of OYE’s “Butterfly Effect Monokini” because it’s fun and sexy… but more comfortable and covering than a basic bikini.

3. Black and White: No, I don’t want you wearing a zebra print bikini (really, don’t do it!), but the two most popular colors coming down the runway for this season aren’t actually colors at all! Black is the perfect sultry bathing suit color (and I’m all for a little extra slimming when I’m in my bathing suit), and white is a bright, fun option for your peachy beachy attitude!

4. Sheer Cover-ups: Okay, so this isn’t exactly a bikini or bathing suit trend, but it is one that is going hand and hand with your favorite looks! Sheer cover ups were ALL over the runway too, and I really think that they’re an easy and effortless way to add a little bit of glam to your beachwear. Grab a pair of oversized sunglasses and a big, floppy hat and you’ll look like you just stepped off a Hollywood set! I found this gorgeous (and totally on-trend!) cover-up on Etsy… and it’s made to order for only $45!

5. Retro Bathing Suits: I’ve seen these on multiple celebs as well as on a few girlfriends of mine, and it’s possibly the most flattering of all the styles. Pin-up cuts, flirty skirts and fun outfits make for a totally amazing look on virtually any woman! I love the Victoria’s Secret Retro Bikini for the imperfection-hiding skirt and generously cut bikini top!

If you’re shopping for a new bikini this season, what style are you going for? I’ll probably be purchasing something along the retro lines. Have any great recommendations for brands or styles that always work for your figure? Share your bikini tips and secrets with us!

Travel Beauty Must Have: Japonesque Pink Clutch Brow Case

June 25th, 2010 by Jaime Palmucci

Some women are born with the perfect brows – my sister is definitely one of them – but I, however, was not. I have big, angry Italian eyebrows, and they need constant taming. That means that if I want  them looking good, I need to carry something with me to keep them in check.

Meet Japonseque’s Pink Clutch Brow Case. With a mirror, brow stencils, tweezers, gel and more, this is the perfect on-the-go kit for the girl who can never seem to get her brows right.

I don’t use the stencils (my brows have a good natural shape, they just like to grow outside of the lines a LOT) but everything else gets use. If you get your brows waxed, this is a great product to buy for in between waxing.

And, the shocking part? These little travel tweezers are better than the ones I had at home! Japonesque sent me another set to replace those, but having two great tweezers in my possession has absolutely changed the way I view my eyebrow maintenance.

Get the Pink Clutch Brow Case on Amazon for only $24.

Is this something you’d use yourself? Let us know in the comments!

Do You Know Your Skin Age?

June 25th, 2010 by Jaime Palmucci

Worried about how your skin makes YOU look? Do you think that it makes you look even older than you already are?

Don’t fret! There are 7 signs – and ways to prevent an aged skin look – that you can learn about, thanks to dermatologist and creator of ZO Skin Health, Dr. Zein Obagi.

- UV Exposure: It tops every dermatologist’s list. UV rays (and lack of sunscreen) accelerate skin aging and cause hyperpigmentation and skin laxity. The best fix: apply sunscreen every day, in every season.

- Weight: You’ve probably waited a long time to find out when having a few extra pounds actually works to your advantage. If you’re over 40, a slightly higher Body Mass Index (about 4 points) makes you look up to 3 years younger. If you’re over 55, you’ll look even younger than that! If you’re less than 40, the reverse is true.

- Stress: Financial stress, personal problems, marital difficulties and job-related stress all take a toll. Stress is definitely inter-related with your physiology as well as your mind, and increases the free radicals in your body—which are constant scavengers of anti-oxidants. Stress causes or exacerbates acne, eczema, rosacea, wrinkles and laxity. Take time to manage your stress with yoga, exercise or deep breathing.

- Smoking: Many of the 4,000 toxins contained in cigarette smoke go directly to the bloodstream, and reach the skin. “Smoker’s face” is now actually a term in medical dictionaries, because people who have smoked for 10+ years have added lines and wrinkles (typically perpendicular to the lips), as well as deeper vertical lines on the cheeks. Smoking also affects the tint of the skin and reduces the efficiency of the skin’s ability to regenerate itself. Do you need one more reason to quit smoking?

- Medication: Prescription meds that relax the muscles (such as anti-depressants) may make the skin look older. The author of the Case Western Reserve study theorizes that depression may compromise the production of hormones, like human growth hormone, that contribute to healthy, plump skin. With your physician’s guidance, manage your medications.

- Moisturizer Addiction: Skin can develop a dependency on moisturizer, and when skin cells in the dermis sense that the surface skin cells have been plumped by moisturizer, they slow down the collection of water and delay cellular function. It’s better to use moisturizer sparingly, and always be sure to use products that activate and stimulate the skin (e.g., high concentrations of retinol).

- Hormones: Menopause can wreak havoc on your skin, but hormone replacement therapy can help preserve a more youthful look. According to the Case Western study that was published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a 70-year old who has had HRT for at least 16 years will look four years younger.

Tips from the Pros: How to Apply Self-Tanner

June 23rd, 2010 by Jaime Palmucci

Let’s face it: it’s definitely challenging to get the perfect application for self-tanner, even for those of us who have used it year after year. Well, Au Courant’s Sue Horrell has offered some great tips to help you get the perfect application!

For the ultimate glow, you’ll need to practice these easy steps for an even, gorgeous bronze:

  1. Exfoliate from head to toe!  “It’s best to exfoliate before you tan to ensure that your skin is smooth and even for a flawless application,” said Au Courant’s Sue Horrell. “Use our Ultra-Nourishing Face & Body Polish for a moisturizing exfoliation pre-tan.”
  2. For hard to place reaches, like your back, be sure to use Au Courant Sponge On A Stick to ensure that you’re covering all those hard to reach places – this convenient sponge makes applying cream to your back a breeze.
  3. To avoid streakiness, be sure to take your time and pay careful attention that you are thoroughly covering every inch of your body.
  4. For a deeper, longer lasting tan, use a layering technique.  In order to do so, apply two or more coats of tanner on the same day or one day apart.  There is no need to shower, exfoliate or moisturizer in between these double-sessions.
  5. For flawless facial coverage, use Au Courant Facial Flock Sponge.
  6. Do not shower for 24 hours in order to allow color to soak in and reach its peak.
  7. Post-tan be sure to keep moisturized.  Try Au Courant’s Sunless Tanning Extender, designed to nourish, revitalize and hydrate the skin by incorporating a skin-soothing Aloe Vera Gel, this extender keeps your sunless tan looking fresh and radiant!

Available in mousse, gel, spray and lotion forms, Au Courant’s collection of sunless tanning products leave your skin radiant and beautiful. Check it out at AuCourant.com
