Gypsy ’05 is one of my go-to web sites for comfortable, casual and fashionable clothes and accessories. I love their organic cotton maxi dresses (I have one in almost every color) and wear them all year ’round, regardless of the temperature. Their sweat pants are the best – so soft (and flattering!) that I can wear them all day and then sleep in them. Now Gypsy ’05 has introduced Gypsyz, a combination sock/boot/shoe, that they say redefines the shoe. They are “lifestyle shoes” inspired by South American hand made knit booties. The sole is made from 100% biodegradable rubber, the sock part is 100% Organic Cotton, and the dye process used is eco-friendly. They look really comfortable, and I WANT to love them but I’m just not there yet. They sort of remind me of these sock things that my grandmother used to knit for the church fair.
And they’re pricey: $129. I’m wondering how durable the sole is. Are they meant for walking (or strutting), or are they an “around the house” kind of thing. If so, would you really pay $129 for a fancy (and possibly itchy) pair of slippers? If they are durable enough for outside the house, how would you style this? They also come in a shorter (and less expensive style – $109), as well as a men’s version. We’d love to hear your thoughts. Would you buy these? How and where would you wear them?
