Soothe and Heal Dry Winter Skin Before Spring!

curel heals hands

How can you even think of cheery summer colors, sandals and lightweight dresses when your skin has “WINTER” written all over them?! Start the healing process with Hand & Cuticle Therapy ($6) from Curél.

Washing my hands constantly and using hand sanitizer all winter long has really done a number on my poor little hands. They have never been this bad! I’ve tried to keep them moisturized but it’s hard to remember with everything else that is going on. I’m ready to start some intensive therapy on these puppies though and I’m going to be slathering this Hand & Cuticle Therapy on my hands 2x a day for the next few weeks to see if I can get my hands back into shape in time for Spring!

Being pregnant and all, it’s getting challenging to reach my toes to give them the TLC they deserve. I’m going to make an effort for the next few weeks though so they will be ready for sandals by the time warmer weather gets here! Curel’s Intensive Healing Cream ($12) promises to deliver moisture quickly and efficiently. Sounds like exactly what I need. It proposes to heal even the driest and most chapped skin. Perfect for toes, ankles and heels. Sign me up!

My other challenge has been lower back pain, which I’ve been using Topricin for. It’s a pain relief AND a healing cream that not only provides soothing relief to uncomfortable dryness of the skin on the face, hands and feet but it also provides rapid healing and relief for symptoms associated with Rosacea, Eczema, Psoriasis, Calluses and dry flaky heels and other dry/cracked skin on the body.

Topricin delivers reliable pain relief, improving quality-of-life, and providing a strong adjunct to professional care with no side effects or contraindications. Topricin’s 11 homeopathic medicines are proven to be safe and effective for the elderly, children, pregnant women and all skin types and will not interfere with any medication you may be taking. When I was having some pregnancy related lower back pain, I started using Topricin Pain Relief & Healing Cream several times a day. I noticed an improvement in the way my back felt immediately and even moreso after several days of use. I was quite impressed so it has now become an important part of my medicine cabinet. I’m so glad I discovered Topricin!

Bitter Root Vintage for Valentine’s Day

February is the month of all things red! Yes, it’s Valentine’s month, but it’s also American Heart Month! In the spirit of the season, Bitter Root Vintage offered to send me out a few pieces to try so that I could see the quality and share my thoughts with all of you! Bitter Root Vintage is an incredible site full of amazing finds at incredible prices! You’re going to get personalized customer service-you even get an adorable hand-written note in your package! (Who does that anymore?! I couldn’t even remember the last time I got something so personal!) From the very beginning, it’s clear that Bitter Root isn’t afraid to get personal. Their Facebook page is full of REAL women wearing their clothing along with loads of coupon codes, sales and much much more! I like that.

Here’s what I was sent:

valentines2Rose Petal Ring- $24
I am extremely picky when it comes to jewelry. I love things that are unique. I want people to strike up a conversation about something I’m wearing! With that said, I don’t want to leave my house looking like a disco ball! This ring is so classic! The red center is actually a scanned rose! It’s so pretty and feminine…you really have to see it for yourself! The Rose Petal Ring is adjustable in the back and not recommended if you wear under a size 8 ring. (My friend wears a 7.5 and this fit her will with minor adjusting. My middle finger is a size 9 and it still worked great!)

Come Dancing Dress-$112
I can’t think of a time of year when this dress wouldn’t be absolutely perfect! A date to the opera, a wedding, a Christmas party, Valentine’s Day…it’s like the little black dress, only spiced up a bit! The inside components of this dress are so well built and hold in any unflattering “cushion” you may have. The modest cut with a peek-a-boo back allows you to wear the proper undergarments without catching sight of unsightly bra straps. I don’t think it gets more classic than this, ladies!

Starlet Peep Toe Pumps-$42 (on sale for $28!)
Red high heels are another instant classic! (There’s even songs about them!) One thing I’ve had a difficult time finding is a classic red pump that doesn’t look like it belongs in a night club. This heel does just that! The insoles actually have built-in cushion which is absolutely incredible! No more worrying about finding insoles, which can be tricky when dealing with peep toe pumps!

Bitter Root is also going to offer a gorgeous Chanel-like bag up for a giveaway soon! Stay tuned!

I highly recommend checking out Bitter Root Vintage! Tell me which piece is your favorite in the comments below!

Fashionable Husbands – What To Wear This Winter

Lately, I’ve spent more time keeping my family well dressed than I have myself! I guess that is just what happens when you’re pregnant… Yoga pants become the norm, anything but slippers hurt your feet and buying new shoes for your hubby is more fun than trying to cram your swollen feet into a pair of stilettos. Yup, that’s where I’m at.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I have a HARD time finding boots for my husband this season. You just can’t find them anywhere for under $200! What the heck? After a lot of searching, I found these Palladium Pampa Sport Boots from Bank Fashion for around $130.

paladium boots

Palladium Pampa Sport Boots feature a vintage style brown leather upper, khaki canvas trim pabelling, plus a padded cuff and lace and eyelet fastening system. These boots are complete with signature branding and a chunky textured outsole that will appeal to any man. My husband loves these because they are comfortable, easy to adjust and manly looking. A nice change from the ugly pair he got at Wal Mart 10 years ago….

Price: $130

Finding a coat that my husband wants to wear is almost as hard as getting a teenager to wear a coat… He wears a chunky knit sweater in the middle of January because he hasn’t found the “perfect” coat. Personally, I think this one would be awesome…

This Voi Jeans Alaska Parka is warm AND stylish! It features a black woven cotton exterior with detachable faux fur trim hood, large square stitch quilted exterior and padded design. This jacket has a button overlay to the zip closure, plus multiple pockets and branding to complete this stylish coat.

Price: $140

My husband is pretty picky about his jeans too… (I taught him well?!) As far as fit, function and price go, he prefers Old Navy and Gap jeans.

Throw on a pair of waffle knit thermal long underwear under any pair of jeans to make them winter-ready!

Price: $60

What To Wear While Christmas Shopping

Christmas Shopping Housewife

It’s that time of year again! Everyone is desperately trying to get their Christmas shopping done in time. Who can be bothered with what they look like right now? Well, please… I beg of you! Don’t go out of the house in sneakers and pajama pants. I’ve seen WAY too many ladies out shopping wearing the most absurd and unacceptable outfits this month. Don’t be one of them! Just because you are distracted by holiday shopping doesn’t mean you have to scare people while you are doing it. It’s just as easy to be comfortable AND fashionable. That’s what we are ALL ABOUT here at The Fashionable Housewife.

So we’ve compiled a few tips on what to wear as well as some outfit ideas to get you inspired for dressing up this holiday season!

Things to keep in mind when you get dressed to go out Christmas shopping…

  1. COMFORT! Nobody cares if you are rocking your 4 inch stilettos in the mall. Really. Find your most comfortable, yet STYLISH jeans, like these Lee Perfect Fit Skinny Jeans, and strut your stuff. Don’t head our in pajama pants and sneakers! You will scare the other shoppers and make a spectacle of yourself.
  2. WARMTH! I don’t like lugging my coat around the stores, so I dress with many layers that I can peel off one at a time as I get overheated. Start with a tank top or cami, followed by a long sleeve shirt, a sweater that is easy to get on and off, and top it off with a vest, bulky knot sweater or light jacket.
  3. ACCESSORIZE! Just because you are comfy doesn’t mean you can’t look glam! Don your most sparkly jewels, like these sparkly Penguin Studs from Fossil, and get into the festive spirit of the season.
  4. FOCUS! It’s easy to get distracted while doing your Christmas shopping but try to stay focused! Only one week left before Christmas so now is the time to buckle down and get things done! Try apps for your iPhone like Retale to help get things done faster and cheaper.
  5. TIME! Keep track of time by wearing a stylish watch like this Decker Chronograph Stainless Steel Watch from Fossil so you don’t have to keep pulling your iPhone out of your pocket all day.

Wondering how all that translates into real life? See below…

Our good friend Betsy over at A Few Goody Gumdrops interviewed Ariel Hansen about her gorgeous handmade scarves and wraps. Here’s a snippet of the interview for you to enjoy…

ariel hansen

1.When did you launch ARIEL Handmade Scarves and Wraps?
I launched my line in the spring of 2013.

2.Where do your draw your inspiration from?
I draw my inspiration from nature and everyday life. I love to integrate certain colors, patterns and details from many different cultures along with a wide range of textiles.

3.Your range of shades are gorgeous. Are your scarves in seasonal or year round shades?
I combine black with color because I believe the two make each other stronger. I do try to keep the colors seasonal. I definitely think women tend to be more daring during the winter months and opt for bright colors to feel more uplifted on a dreary day.

4. Do you create a specific line for each season?
Yes. During the summer I create wraps in many shades that can be worn on cool nights or to the beach! During the colder months I use wools and heavy cottons. For spring and fall my scarves and wraps are made of lighter fabrics such as cotton and silk.

5. Where are your scarves made?
I actually hand-make them all myself which gives me a sense of freedom!

6. How do you select your fabrics?
I select my fabrics depending on the quality and the season. Cotton and silk are great fabrics that can be worn all year round.

Master The Fall Trends – Black & White

The Fashionable Housewife was selected by top department store, KOHL’S, to teach you how to “Master The Fall Trends” at Kohl’s for around $100!

First, we styled “New Classics”, then we showed you an updated look for the “Double Denim” trend. Last week we covered “Sporty Chic” and now it’s time for our last trend of this series – “Black & White”!

Trend #4: Black & White
There is no grey area when it comes to staying on trend this fall! It’s as easy as black and white. Make a bold, mod statement by wearing black and white color blocking, black and white graphic prints or stripe, then accent your outfit with a pop color (We recommend the season’s hottest colors – bright red or cobalt blue).

Sounds easy enough. I think we can TOTALLY do this trend. I’m loving black and white, especially stripes lately. I’m also really happy that cobalt blue is a trending color since it’s one of my favorites.

Disclosure: I received compensation from Kohl’s in order to shop in-store for each Fall trend and for participating in their Fall Trends Blogger Challenge. Opinions are my own.

Here’s how we did this trend…
