Top Hair and Beauty Trends for 2017

In 2016, we saw the rise of bold matte lips and the never ending hype for all things contouring. And although we may be moving away from the contouring trend in 2017, it seems some of 2016’s styles are here to stay for the coming year. Now, of course, everyone has their own way of applying their makeup, or styling their hair, but there’s nothing to say that you can’t take a little bit of inspiration from this year’s upcoming beauty trends. With the rise of social media platforms, especially sites such as Instagram and Snapchat, it’s easier than ever for social media stars and celebrities to flaunt their new hair and beauty trends to thousands, if not millions, of beauty obsessed fans. So, this year’s hair and beauty trends are heavily influenced by these people. Stars such as Kylie Jenner, Jeffree Star, and Tanya Burr are leading the pack for the top trends of 2017.

Glossy Lids

The smoky eye has been a top trend for a while now, however with the influence of Kylie Jenner, the glossy lids trend seems to have hit the ground running. In the past, people mainly used highlighter or glitter on their faces to create a little shine, but recently, in many editorial shoots, glossy eyelids have been the ‘go to look’. Brands such as M.A.C and Kevyn Aucoin have dedicated eye glosses, although if those brands are a little out of your price range, you can always sweep a little lip gloss over your favorite eyeshadow to create a similar effect. Although trying to D.I.Y can be a little tricky, so check out these tips on how to create the perfect glossy eyeshadow.

Matte Lips

The matte lip look is still going strong in 2017, however many people are wanting to change it up a little. For example, people are now using it to create two tone lip looks, blurred edges, and lighter pastel colored lips. Brands such as Jeffree Star Cosmetics, GA-DE makeup, and Kylie Jenner provide a wide range of matte lipsticks, that are able to create any of 2017’s best lipstick looks. However, again this year we are seeing the glitter trend popping up, with glitter lips also emerging as one of the big lipstick trends for 2017. Last year, British makeup artist Pat McGrath introduced the world to glitter-dusted-lips. You may think that this style will wipe away with one bite of food, but it’s actually pretty wearable. All you have to do is swipe on some of your favorite lip gloss and pat on a little glitter and you’re good to go!

Extremely Long Hair

In 2016, the ‘Lob’ (long bob) was all the rage in the hair world, however it seems this year that has been completely flipped on its head, and many people are growing their hair to extreme lengths. Stars such as Beyoncé and the Kardashians have been seen rocking the look already this year. Not only is long hair in, but there is also a slightly hippy look emerging that fits in perfectly with this long hairstyle. Baby braids are tiny little braids that you can layer throughout your hair to create some Boho chic to your long hair, and stars such as Bella Thorne have already been seen rocking this look at last year’s music festivals.

Glitter Strobing

The trends for this year seem to be leaning towards the slightly more shimmery and glittery side. Many makeup artists and celebrities are taking highlighting to the next level and are applying glitter instead. You create the look by applying strobing cream, highlighting powder, and a couple layers of glitter for that extra impact on a night out. It also gives you a slightly angelic look that may be something quite exciting for friends and family to try out on each other!

We hope you have fun testing out all these exciting looks for the new year, and whether you’re testing them out in full, or just implementing a few influences from this look, we are sure you’ll rock it!
