Don’t get us wrong, we love spring. Who doesn’t enjoy the light nights and bright mornings, the world outside slowly blossoming back to life and, of course, the amazing new fashion flooding the high street?
But it’s definitely not all rainbows and butterflies. The rising temperature can wreak havoc with our hair, and with the full humidity of summer due to hit us in a matter of weeks, it’s only going to get worse.
You need a hairstyle that can survive the next two seasons of blaring sun and clammy heat, and we know just the one – boho chic waves.
To help you nail this classic spring/summer look, we’re sharing a few top tips for updating it for 2017.
#1: first things first, fight frizz
Whilst wild curls or waves are a big yes for boho chic hair, out-of-control frizz is a massive no. Condition your locks properly to protect them from the natural heat and dryness of this coming season, and you’ll end up with glossy, flowing ringlets even a Disney princess couldn’t beat.
Make your own DIY masks from food products lying around your kitchen (coconut oil works a treat) and spend the night indulging in a cheeky, low-cost pampering session.
#2: get the right styling products
You spend hours in front of the mirror carefully teasing your hair into ringlets, only to have them fall flat within minutes of leaving the house. It’s happened to us all, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating to deal with.
For perfectly undone boho waves that last all day, you’re going to need a good quality electrical curler. We recommend the Mark Hill range of hair curlers and mix-and-match barrels, which always deliver the results we need (plus, with reasonable prices, they won’t break the bank).
#3: freshen up your color
Ditch your usual hue and freshen up your look with one of SS17’s hottest hair colors – blorange.
This year’s most eye-catching style is a delicate mix of blonde and orange (with a healthy measure of pink often added in as well), and we think it’s the perfect shade for modernizing your boho chic locks.
#4: add some plaits
Whenever anyone talks about boho chic hair, the first thing that pops into our minds is braiding. Fishtails, pigtails, half ups, French plaits, halo braids – there are tons of different ways you can add some texture and interest to your look.
If trying to coax your tresses into even the simplest of plaits leaves you all tangled up, check out this handy collection of tutorials. You’ll be braiding like a pro in no time.
