I recently learned about Kangu, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing health services for pregnant mothers and their newborn babies. Not everyone is fortunate enough to receive the medical care their need during and after pregnancy and Kangu’s mission is to help prevent maternal death and newborn death.
Disclosure: I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central and Kangu. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
All three of my children were brought into this world via water birth, assisted by a midwife. My first child was born in a free-standing birthing center and my second two children were born at home. All three of my births were drug-free, natural water births with no complications. I had the utmost confidence in all of my midwives from early pregnancy, through labor and during my after care. Knowing I had trained professionals on my side, let me rest easy and concentrate on finding my inner birthing goddess in time to birth without fear.
No every woman has that “luxury” though. Nearly 300,000 women die every year from preventable causes related to childbirth. This is 99% attributed to women living in developing countries, which makes me feel very blessed to live in the USA.
It’s sad to think about, but more than 3 million newborn babies die in developing countries, every year. Additionally, 2.6 million babies are stillborn. Maternal death is the second leading cause of death in women aged 15-44, worldwide. It doesn’t have to be this way though!
Maternal death is highest among young girls, under the age of 15. The majority of maternal deaths (75%) are caused by common and preventable causes: bleeding during childbirth, post-birth infections and high blood pressure. Kangu’s mission is to make birth safer for women around the globe.
Kangu has made it easy to search through profiles of pregnant women that are in need and then you can contribute towards the person you choose to help provide high-quality healthcare before, during and after childbirth. These services, provided by vetted local medical partners, are proven to reduce maternal and newborn deaths by up to 80%! Isn’t that amazing? Just read some of their success stories and I know you’ll be excited about this cause!
