A faithful reader here on The Fashionable Housewife recently informed me about a cool new site, www.ShopYourShape.com, where you can actually plug in your measurements and have it Calculate Your Body Shape.
While the site is fairly reliable for calculating your measurements and determining your most possible body shape, the outfit suggestions leave a lot to be desired… I draw the line when someone recommends I wear shoulder pads! Ack!
So I decided to put together a summer outfit ideas for pear shaped bodies, since their suggestions pretty much suck…

How to Dress a Pear Body Shape: If you have a pear shaped body (also called a triangle) you want to enhance and add volume (or the illusion of volume) to your upper body while really emphasizing your tiny waist as well as de-emphasizing your lower half to create a balanced, hourglass appearance. To create the illusion of an hourglass figure or to just enhance your good curves, try mixing and matching the following pieces featured below…
TOPS
You want to add “volume” to your top half by enhancing your bust. If you have small breasts, consider getting a great padded bra like Lily of France Air Extraordinaire Push-up Bra to add a cup size and enhance the girls.
Then choose tops with v necks, wraps tops, empire waist tops, or tops that nip in at the waist with darts or a belt. Another trick to creating balance with your top half is shirts with flutter sleeves. Here are a few tops that would work well…

SKIRTS
You want skirts that nip in at the waist, not skirts that are low waisted. Choose a-line skirts or straight pencil skirts that end right above the knee. Avoid skirts with lots of extra material because this will add more volume to your hips and butt. Be careful with long skirts or pleated skirts. Prints and textures on your bottom half should remain small.

JEANS
If you a pear shaped, chances are you have a really hard time finding jeans that fit both your hips and your waist. If it fits your butt and hips, then the waist gaps. If the waist fits, well then you better turn around and make sure you didn't split the seam getting them on! Thankfully, there are now 2 different companies that make jeans for pear shaped women who have a little extra junk in their trunk.

PZI Jeans - PZI denim jeans are designed to fit the curvy woman's unique figure. PZI jeans give women the ability to enjoy their lifestyle by wearing stylish jeans with comfort. The PZI woman is mature and wants her clothing to reflect that maturity, without compromising her trendy and urban style. The PZI woman is a confident woman who knows that she doesn't have to "bare it all" to get the attention she demands.

Little in the Middleโข - LITM jeans are designed to embrace the waist in an innovating way by creating pants that are one size smaller in a woman's middle. As a result, the pants fit a curvier hip, while perfectly conforming to a smaller waist.
If you found this post helpful, leave a comment and let me know! If you aren't pear shaped, no worries. I want to do a separate post for each body type before the end of July. Which body shape do you want me to feature next? Take the poll below!
