  1. Your hair looks fab, doll… and it’s going to be perfect for that humid Florida weather!

My process took far less time and I didn’t have to wait four days to put my hair into a ponytail, but it’s only supposed to last 8 weeks. We should do a dual update to see how it looks a month after treatment!

    1. wow I’m so curious…what did you use? It only lasts 8 weeks but must have less chemicals right? What did you use?

  2. The fashionable husband here, the difference between the perm and non-perm pics is the type of lighting used. The perm pic uses incandescent lighting while the new pics use fluorescent, which tends to make reds look dull.

  3. Caitlyn, I consulted several salon specialist as well as my doctor to confirm that the Simply Smooth Brazilian Keratin Treatment is indeed safe for pregnant women.

There are no chemicals, no formaldehyde, and no fumes. It’s safer than coloring your hair.

    1. how does this stuff work? of there’s no harsh chemicals…I thought it had to have something close to formaldehyde in order to smooth the hair? Does anyone know whats in this?

  4. I love the way your hair came out, your beautiful!

  5. I can’t even imagine how long my hair would take and what it would cost. I have naturally curly hair like the models, and it is very thick and down to my waist. Its so thick I can’t even get an elastic around it and have to exclusively use combs.

  6. If your hair is naturally very curly, the Brazilian Keratin treatment will not completely straighten your hair. It may relax the curls and make the texture of your hair much more manageable, but you’ll probably end up with waxy hair at best.

For naturally curly hair, I would recommend getting it chemically straightened if you want straight hair. If you want to make your hair more manageable, give it body and make it healthy, then this treatment might be right for you.

Sounds like it may take up to 6 hours to do your hair though! It sounds like you have gorgeous hair though and I wouldn’t change it!!!

  8. Just to clarify, this product SIMPLY SMOOTH, advertises their product as hThat implies it is totally safe and natural, yet it is not. It contains vanillin is an aldehyde and when heated has the same irritating vapors as formalin and formaldehyde. There are other products like the Coppola who also advertise “formaldehyde free”, but again it contains aldehyde.

    1. Thank you for that post … I had the Simply Smooth Treatment and had a terrible reaction. My hair looked great, but when I went into the hot summer sun (same day as treatment) and began to sweat from my scalp, I experienced a vertigo like reaction with severe nausea and vomiting. I could not walk straight or even keep my eyes open. My doctor asked me what medications I was taking…or what I had done that day. When I explained to him that it was a hair treatment, he instructed me to get into a shower and get it out of my hair. It must have entered into my blood stream when I started to sweat. He said that there must be a chemical that reacted badly in my system … similar to formaldehyde. As soon as I got the product out of my hair, I was back to normal. Curly, a bit frizzy … but thankfully not dizzy and sick. I’ll stick to my naturally curly hair, thank you!!! It is NOT safe. Please clarify that statement.

    2. I guess you shouldn’t eat hershey kisses or bake those chocolate chip cookies because most hershey chocolate contains….VANILLIN.

There are different types of aldehydes. Industrial types, i.e. formaldehyde, isn’t meant to be heated up. Then you have your aldehydes that are in your baking goods that are meant to be heated up. The Simply Smooth Line contains the same ingredient in Hershey chocolate.

They offer a great product and a wonderful treatment. Next time do all your research before you post.

  9. So, it has almost been a month and what do you think? Do you like the new do? Can you see the difference between your old perm and the new Simply Smooth hair? I’m thinking of having this done (scheduled for next week) and have my hair chemically straightened right now (love it).

Any insight would be helpful and greatly appreciated!

  10. I called Simply Smooth and they said it’s not for pregnant women. Did they tell you it was OK, or just your salon?

I found an article about it by googling “brazilian keratin treatment while pregnant” and I see u don’t allow links coz of spam so I’m not linking it but I’m kinda worred about YOU!! They said some salons lie to get ur business or don’t know any better. Scary

They showed Simply Smooth ingredients to and it’s defnitely not chemical free! Like Fona said!

Ladies if ur preg like me, DON’T do it, just deal with ur frizz for a few more months. Googgle to find that article it has lots of info.

    1. Yes, if you are preg you should not do this treatment. There hasnot been enough testing to say it is safe. So why take that chance. The company does not want you doing this treatment on anyone pregnant either.
Don’t do it. I am a licensed cometologist and will not perform this on anyone pregnant.

  11. Does this product work on Black hair that is untreated and naturally kinky?

  12. I have to say I agree with this “Caitlyn” Girl…I am educated in the product and Own my own salon in the boston area and WILL NOT offer this service on anyone who is pregant..Just last saturday I had to turn a pregnent women down who wanted the service done because i was “told” by my educator that its not ethical to perform this product on someone who is with child. Though it is an “all natural” product pregnant womens hormones are all over the place and that can effect the results…SO you know there are other alternatives…Simply smooth makes whats called an “after color lock”…(though you dont have to get a color to recieve this service) …ask your stylist. Its a 4 week “mini” keratin treatmeant that IS SAFE for pregnant women…and i got the go ahead from a simply smooth educator herself that it is allowed!

Im insured under the simply smooth company and if anything were to happen to your child your salon could have been at risk…So in my opinion they took a big chance doing the 3 hour Keratin treatment on you! But if you asked your doctor I find some comfort in that! Just like some doctors dont recommend coloring your hair while prego…Others say after the first trimestor its fine! But for those who just dont wanna try the big one but are dealing with unmanagable hair right now..

Try the mini one! Its Fabulous and should be around $75 depending on where you live. It should only takes about 45 minutes for your hairdresser to do it and you only have to leave it in for 24 hours!!! You however do have to use the shampoo and cond which is around $50 to buy!

Its also used to lengthen the results of the “big” keratin treatment…So for miss fashionable housewife…you should do that in between your next big treatment once you start to feel like the keratin is rinsing out a bit!

    Enjoy!

  13. I recently had the Simply Smooth Keratin treatment done. What is the minimum amount of time I must wait to have a color treatment?

  14. My best friend recommended me to Sharre. She did an awesome job and the price was nowhere near as expensive. She services the Philadelphia, Delaware and Parts of New jersey area to my knowledge. She even agreed to come to my home and do my hair since I have children. I was skeptical at first but Sharre answered all of my questions and she knew what she was talking about. Her product is very high end and she is a skilled at what she does. I have seen her work with all hair types and she is very good at what she does. I recommend her to anyone who wants to get control of their hair. She came to my house and did my Brazilian keratin in the privacy and comfort of my own home.. I have never been so happy in my life. I love my hair now and so does my hubby. My only complaint is I can’t keep my hands out of my hair. If you want your hair done and don’t want to break the bank. This is the person to call. Above is her website

  15. Hi! Looks great! I actually found this entry searching for info on perms. It’s my first time considering a perm, and I really loved the way your hair looked in the before shot (as well as in the after, of course :] ) I really know nothing about perms. Would you mind telling me a bit about what you had had done?

    Thanks so much!

  16. I called Zions Hair Salon in Sayville NY one of Simply Smooth’s distributors for this natural smoothing process. I went home and 4 days later washed my hair to find that it was fizzier and curlier than when I went. It is a complete scam, I called and complained and the salon refused to refund my money. Then I contacted Simply Smooth …directly and explained my results and get this…THEY TOLD ME IT SOUND LIKE YOU GOT THE TREATMENT! I told then it did nothing and they told me that it sounds like I got the treatment. I then asked what exactly the treament does; they would not respond…This product is a JOKE!!! So I went back to the Hair Village in Queens NY $150 for a permanent straightening without frizz or upkeep products. I have posted this everywhere as a warning about this company and there products.I have NEVER dealt with more unprofessional people, BUYER BEWARE!

  17. OK, so 5 months later: are you still happy? Would you do it again? Did you experience any hair loss? I’ve been searching, but havent found a review from anyone more than just a few days post treatment…

  18. Hello! Any follow-up on the results? Like Sabrina, I can’t find comments from anyone more than a couple days post-treatment and would love to know if you would do it again and how it “wore”! Thank you!

    1. I had the Brazilian treatment one week ago — I don’t like it at all! My hair is very fine and more to the straight side anyway; however, my hair stylist suggested the procedure to make my hair hold up better in our high humidity. Well, my hair is limp and very, very straight — no fluff whatsoever. I cannot get it to “hold” a bend to I can wear it any way but straight, flat, and limp! I am so frustrated with the results.

  19. I’m so behind… I heard about Japanesse straightening but not the Brazilian one until this afternoon when I met with my GF and saw her hair. It was usually straight but not perfectly straight but it looks great now. I’m thinking about doing the Brazilian Treatment on my hair since it’s somewhat straight but I always want it even more straight so I spend 20-25 min with the flat iron every morning. My question to women who had the treatment done is: Can you put the flat iron away after the treatment or do you still have to use it? Also I have oily type of hair so I have to wash it every day or every other day. Does the type of hair (oily/ dry) make any difference? Thank you for your feedback.

  20. I just had the Keratin Ksilk treatment , it is great! It took a long time though so take many many magazines or your iphone to keep busy. Do your homework, and find a good salon, it is worth it if you want your hair silky and frezz free.www.ksilkkeratin.com

  21. Woah…..this seems like a lot of work to straighten the hair, even with the hair product….is this what people do for beauty? I don’t know if I can handle that, considering all the work you’d have to do in making yourself beautiful.

I will say that the look looks really good with all the work that you’ve done. I gotta say, it looks a lot better than the perm that you went with. =)

  22. I had this treatment done and love it. I have wavy hair that gets very frizzy with humidity. This treatment has changed my life. I only spend about 10 minutes blowdrying my hair and it stays straight (but with some body) even in the rain. I want to tell you that ALL of the keratin treatments do have chemicals. It is impossible to permanently change the texture of your hair without the use of chemicals. Ask for a list of ingredients.

  23. Indeed keratin is the best thing that can happen to your hair! I’ve been using Maxliss keratin lately at home and trust me, my hair has never looked better!

  24. I had the Onix brazilian treatment and it’s destroyed my hair, now is dull damaged and very dry.
I have to do weekly salon treatments and spent a lot of money to condition my hair. The Onix brazilian keratin treatment is dangerous, check before use it.

  25. Please listen to me…do not do this to your hair! I did a keratin treatment twice and loved my long straight thick hair. But a month after the second treatment, I got a bad sore throat. I made an appointment with my doctor and was crying cause my throat was burning so bad. And to top it all off my hair fell out by the hand fulls. How heart breaking to lose my hair like that.

It has finally stopped falling out, but it took weeks of using the Shielo Volume Shampoo with the Shielo Volume Conditioner. THIS IS THE ONLY HEALTHY WAY TO GET KERATIN. It needs to be added to your hair gradually over a period of time. This is what my doctor recommended, and he even recommended the brand because it has high safe keratin doses.

I finally have healthy looking hair again and as much as i loved the way my hair looked after the blow out, I would never ever in this world have that treatment done again EVER!!.

  26. The protein in hair does not change while pregnant. Your body can’t physically change something that is:

    a) Scientifically ‘dead’. Hair is not alive, it is only formed at the root.
    b) That has already been hanging there, ‘dead’, since before you got pregnant.

Just a clarification. I am a Hairdresser and Biochemistry student. Busting hair myths is my thing.
