Recently, Beauty Bar & Allure launched a new monthly subscription service called Sample Society. I previously wrote about the launch, and promptly signed up for the service in order to share my thoughts with any readers considering joining. Now that I’ve received my first box, I wanted to share with you my initial impressions of the program. Keep reading after the break for the full review.
First Impressions
When I received my box in the mail, I was super jazzed to open it. Everything was packaged very nicely, and the box also included an informational pamphlet with product details on each of the samples received.
The deluxe samples I received were:
- Ren Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask
- Oscar de la Renta Esprit d’Oscar Eau de Parfum Deluxe Mini Roller Ball
- Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Deluxe Sam
- Fekkai Advanced Glossing Cream Deluxe Sample
- Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Pen
All of the samples were very generous deluxe sizes, I felt. I was particularly excited about the Glossing Cream and the Skyn Iceland eye pen; I love both brands but rarely am able to afford them.
Overall
I’ve used all of the products at least once since I received my box, and was pleased with most of them. The roller ball from Oscar de la Renta is the only product I am on the fence about, because I’m not quite sure the scent works with my body chemistry. However, the Fekkai Glossing Cream does wonders for my hair and smells great to boot. I also really like the cooling sensation of Skyn Iceland’s eye pen. As far as the Dermalogica and Ren samples, I have not tested them enough to form a true opinion yet – so stay tuned for individual reviews of those at a later date.
Overall, I feel that $15/month is worth it for this subscription service. I think the sample sizes and quality of the products are much better than similarly priced subscription services like Birchbox, and I plan to stick around for at least a few more months to see if I remain pleased. My only semi-complaint was that my box contained no cosmetic samples. Hopefully, in future boxes we’ll see more of that.
I definitely think it’s worth at least a one-month subscription to see how well you like the products selected for you. If you are interested in signing up for Sample Society or purchasing any of the high-end products available on Beauty Bar, please enter my personalized referral code when you order: DSHI2185. I get nothing from this referral code; instead, up to $30 will be donated to Best Friends Animal Society with every purchase made using my referral code.
