Old appliances are a bore. But it gets the job done. So every year, weโre always torn if weโre really going to dispose of that decade-old refrigerator or that hand-me-down blender our neighbor gave us before they moved out.

“Largeย appliancesย typically see modest discounts – between 20% and 40% off – duringย Blackย Friday, but these deals tend to be limited to specific models and brands. For instance, right nowย Best Buyย is taking a little more than 20% off select Samsungย appliancesย during its earlyย Blackย Fridayย sale, which isn’t bad for that brand! As we get closer toย Blackย Friday, big hardware stores like Home Depot will begin to offer discounts closer to 40% or 50% off. Just be aware that vacuums tend to see the biggest general discounts of all the largeย appliances. Washers, dryers, and refrigerators will be less exciting overall, but you can score smaller entry-level units for less than $500 apiece.”

If youโre ready to say goodbye to those decade-old appliances, now is the time to do it! Here are 5 good reasons why you should finally replace old appliances this Black Friday.
1. Repairs cost more than buying a new one.
The go-to solution, for most people, when appliances stop working is to still get them repaired… Why? Well, itโs more practical, affordable, and even eco-friendly. However, there will eventually come a time when itโs no longer worth it to bring your appliances to your trusted repairman every time it fails you. You donโt have to stick to something thatโs really no longer working. Itโs time to move on and invest in a new appliance. Sometimes, itโs better that way. According to statista.com, the appliance is broken is the number one reason people replace old appliances.
2. They are no longer energy-efficient.
A word of caution before we proceed on this one: Before you go shopping for a new washing machine and what-not, determine first if your appliance is actually the cause of your huge power bills. The truth that many people donโt know is that power providers are sometimes the culprit behind this. So better check first if youโre actually getting the best deal in your area.
For those of you in Connecticut, if youโre experiencing this specific problem, go ahead and search for better electric rates in CT and see the difference.
Meanwhile, if youโre absolutely sure that your electricity supplier is not the problem, then maybe you should say goodbye to those big and bulky old appliances. Energy-saving modern devices are available for you.
3. It doesnโt go well with the design of your new home.
You may be one of the housewives whoโve gone to great lengths to remodel your old home to fit those old appliances youโve been keeping since your wedding day. But when youโve finally reached a point in your life that you need to move to a new house, you should probably say goodbye to your old, white appliances. You owe it to yourself to get a fresh start and a badly needed retail therapy for your new home wonโt hurt.
4. Itโs no longer the right size for your family.
When you have more people at home (whether you just gave birth to a new baby or your parents decided to live with you for the time being), then itโs obvious that you need appliances that can cater to the needs of your entire family. This means that a 7kg washing machine may no longer cut it for your needs. It might also mean that you need to upgrade to a two-door refrigerator. But before doing this, make sure that itโs worth it and that you have the budget for such a change.
5. Your needs have changed.
You may be holding on to your motherโs old stuff and appliances, but the sentimental value will not get you anywhere, especially if itโs something you no longer need. Decide for yourself if that old toaster is still worth it if you’re not really using it anymore. Maybe youโll benefit more from the counter space you save from getting rid of the item than keeping it there to gather dust.
Take note that material possessions only have value when you use them, so if you already donโt, then there is no reason for you to keep them around.
The same is true for replacing old appliances. Maybe youโre no longer happy with a big oven since you rarely use it anyway. So why not just sell it off to buy something that you clearly desire? Just be sure that the item is actually yours to sell.
Appliances at the end of the day exist for a reason: they must serve a purpose to you and your family. They are not art pieces or antique collections that are only nice to look at. Once youโve understood this concept, you wonโt have any problem with replacing or getting rid of other appliances in your home and getting new appliances for your home.ย
