  1. Surprisingly, I have to disagree. While lip liner isn’t always called for, it can be a useful part of a woman’s makeup bag – if she knows how to use it. It can be used to help define lips, alter lip color, and add depth (since lipstick alone gives you just one color all over).

However, women should NOT use it unless they know how to. A trip to a good, experienced makeup artist is a great idea if you’re looking for some expert advice (believe it or not, you can find some for free at makeup counters if you’re lucky). Or, see my recent post Just Say No to Clown Lips – When Lip Liner Goes Bad for my take on what not to do, and even a few tips on what to do.

  2. It’s funny you post about Carmindy, because I can’t stand her. I think that her own makeup is horrendous most of the time(as is her hair and clothes), but for some reason, she makes the girls on What NOT to Wear look great. Wierd.

I have to agree with Meg about using it IF you know how. (One of my best friends uses it (poorly) and I want to wipe her face off every time she does! LOL ) Rather than get rid of a lipstick I bought that ends up being too light for me, I use it to give depth to the color.

  3. Ok. The line has got to go. I totally agree with that. However, I use lip liner as a lip color. I put my lip conditioner (blistex) on in the morning and after that soaks in, I use lip liner as my “lipstick”. Lasts all the way through lunch with no rubbing off! I really like Revlon only for the fact that it is a thicker formula, and you kiss the kleenex once and you’re out the door. Plus, they have great nudes!
I have to agree with Cindy about Carmindy. She does look bad-I thought I was the only one. :)
Love you Ladies– You blog wonderfully!

  4. My lip liner pet peeve is when I see women using brown or black lip liner and then filling in their lips with a pale color. YUCK!!! PLEASE LADIES STOP DOING THIS IF YOU ARE THAT PERSON. It doesn’t look sexy or attractive, it looks cheap!

My lipstick always bleeds so I use liner to keep the color in, however I usually use either a nude shade of liner or one that matches my lipstick so there is absolutely no tell-tale line.

  5. Thanks for linking to my article!
Carmindy was great and this was definitely one of the best tips she gave. I totally agree with not using a lipliner. I would like to try the Duwop no colour one though.

  6. I like Carmindy’s point of view, but I use lip liner, and always will. I like to shape my upper lip to make it look more full. In doing so, I make my lips look more symmetric. I also like it when I can quickly blend in my lip liner into the remainder of my lipstick, after say, drinking from a glass.

  7. I never like to put lipliner . I don’t know. I just feel it’s useless to me and it doesn’t really make a difference on my lips. So I don’t waste money buying lipliner nor wasting time putting it on

  8. wow the last time i even put lipliner on was freshmen year in highschool, never really liked it actually i don’t even see the purpose of it and now i barely put lipstick on, well ever since I fell in love with lipgloss

  9. Carmindy first off always tells women how beautiful they are, which is sweet, but she’s full of it, she’s great at making people think she’s one thing, when in reality she’s something different. Her friends may disagree, but they haven’t seen the real person, period. Plus, she repeats that freckles are so wonderful, yet she covers hers completely. Her photo shoot in her book, her skin? always flawless if not a tad shiney, but she has tons of freckles, she still looks great without any makeup, her freckels make her look young, but when do we see them? Yet they’re so great. It’s just me. But this is a lady, who is smart, very funny, driven and not someone you want to go head to head with. She’s affected, and has never had her own style, always keeping up with “what’s in”. but of course, that’s just my opinion. This isn’t personal, btw, just a strong observation.

  10. Wow, nice to see there are other people that can’t stand her although this is a rather old post. I was reminded of her recently as I saw her ex, a boyfriend she’d had right before moving to Florida, I guess he probably helped her, he had told her he wasn’t sleeping with me, which of course he was, I even got pregnant with his child and Carmindy though she knew of the cheating wanted to try to be my friend. He’d told her she was fat and would end up even fatter like her mother to finally get rid of her, it was cruel, but I can’t say I felt bad for her, she only cared about herself and used people for whatever period of time so it’s no big suprise that she’s done so well with only a few minutes on TV. Wow she was basically a sociopath self absorbed bitch when I knew her although to her credit she could be really funny. I can’t imagine how her head fits through the door now. Her book is, well, a joke. A few lines of text and then as many photos as she could get of herself. If I was on TV for a minute I could get a book deal too. I once in a while watch the show, just to see how transparent Carmindy will be that day. I guess her ex cheating on her with me in a way helped to get her where she is today, perhaps I should ask her for payment, it only seems fair.

  11. I love the makeup tips, but they’ve already been covered on the show. I don’t know what I wanted, but whatever it might have been, this book missed the mark. I will say, I have never been less a fan of Carmindy than I am now. Self love is one thing. A good thing. Then theirs down right conceit. The new “intro” to the show when she arrives, just rubs me the wrong way, like it’s a sign. One that the book confirmed. A girl who makes her own face her trademark, and twenty plus photos in her book of herself? Why not just invest in a tatoo, IT’s All About Me. Across her forehead. How does no one see how fake she is. Hug at the end now or not, someone trained her to seem human, she’s done a 180 since the first shows.

  12. Wow. Carmindy bashing. Well, kind of it would seem.

I think the tattoo Idea is not a bad idea, harsh, but it would make me laugh. She does seem so nice, but not sincerely. It just doesn’t wash. It doesn’t matter, I’m proud of her anyway. It takes a certain kind of person….. Martha Stewart comes to mind, to do what she’s done, right place right time and voila, Carmindy was finally invented. Perfected. May the real carmindy please stand up?

  13. You know someone has made it when all the random mean girls from high school come out of the woodwork to bash her. Poor things…what are you 35, 40 years old and trolling blogs to leave anonymous comments about someone who probably doesn’t even remember your name? Pathetic.
