I am a self proclaimed lip balm addict. They should have therapy for people like me. I must have 100 lip balms floating around my house and car… It is indeed a sickness.
In light of that, I can definitely recommend a few lip balms as well as tell you which ones NOT to try!
My favorites are:
Burt’s Bees
Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm is by far my favorite of all lip balms. If you are a faithful reader of this site, you probably remember me posting about it before.
I like the beeswax lip balm, not only because the stuff works like a charm to correct dry, chapped lips, but because it tastes and smells good too. It’s a bit glossy, so you can use it on top of lipstick. I usually apply it first, wait about 5 minutes, and then apply a colored lipstick on top. It creates the perfect base coat for your lipstick and keeps your lips soft all day long.
I also like the Honey Lip Balm, Lifeguard’s Choice Lip Balm, and Lip Shimmers.

Savannah Bee Company
This 100% Natural Beeswax Lip Tint is a new favorite of mine. I just discovered it about a week ago at Bath & Body Works for only $2.00. I love beeswax lip balms to begin with, so I decided to try it out. I was not disappointed!
It’s formula is much like Burt’s Bees, but less glossy. The effect is the same though. It softens and moisturizes your lips, while bathing them in a soft color that looks as natural as your own lips. It comes in a few different colors. I purchased mine in “Peach” and I’m wearing it right now!

C.O. Bigelow
This is another Bath & Body Works product called “Mentha Cinnamint Lip Shine”. It’s a cross between a really nice lip gloss and a really effective lip balm. It comes in a tube and is best applied with your finger. It has no color, but the glossy texture makes your lips appear fuller.
If your lips and dry and cracked, it’s not going to help much, but if you are looking to keep your lips soft and smooth throughout the day, then this is the perfect product for you. I carry it in my purse and apply it a couple times during the day for a fresh, glossy look. And the best part is, it’s not sticky and tacky like regular lip gloss, because it’s actually a lip balm.

Blistex
If you are looking for an inexpensive fix to a long term problem, try Blistex Complete Moisture Lip Balm. It’s a very sheer, light lip balm that infuses your lips with intense moisture. It lasts a long time and doesn’t need to be reapplied as often as most lip balms.
Because of the lightness, it doesn’t stick to food when you are eating like some lip balms tend to do. And another plus about this lip balm is the protection of SPF 15. This is a great one to take to the beach with you this summer!

Jafra
Jafra’s Extra Care Cream is just about the best thing you can do for your lips. Though not technically a lip balm, it works better than one. I have been using it on my lips for over 20 years now. It also works great on the eye lids and under the eye as well. This intensive moisture therapy quickly smooths and softens even the driest skin. I highly recommend this one!
If you don’t know of a Jafra consultant in your area, search for one. Purchase online here, or look on eBay for “Extra Care Cream”.

The following lip balms have ingredients in them that are actually bad for lips. They formulate them in such a way that makes them addictive and self defeating.
When you apply any of these lip balms, several hours later your lips will actually become more chapped then they were before you applied the lip balm, thus making you need to use it again. In this way, the company is guaranteed that you will have to continue using their products over and over again in order for them to be effective, thus more money for them.
Your lips will not appreciate this though! Lip balm should not have to be applied all day long every day in order to keep your lips moisturized. If you love your lips, steer clear of the following lip balms:
