Do your kids like avocados? Mine certainly do! Three of my kid’s first food was avocado. One was an accident though! I hadn’t intended to start feeding her yet, but she was sitting in her high chair watching me cook dinner at about 7 months old when she reached over to the counter nearby, grabbed a ripe avocado, stuck her little finger through the soft skin and started scooping out the contents to eat it! That little booger loved it and has been a huge fan of avocados ever since. Guacamole is a weekly dish in our house.
The avocado’s smooth, creamy consistency and mild taste makes it one of the first fresh fruits a child can enjoy. When my youngest is old enough. I intend to have avocado be his first food too. Avocados contribute nearly 20 nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and phytonutrients, that are important to infant/toddler nutrition.
While we love our guacamole as much as the next person, we decided it would be fun to try out some new recipes that use fresh avocados. Wholesome, fresh foods are less likely to contain added sugars, salt, and other processed ingredients.
We invited a few of our friends and family over for a Love One Today® Party. We were sent some recipe cards along with ThermoServ Fresh Avocado plates and these really cool t-shirts!
For the party, I made two dishes and two drinks with avocados! I was already quite familiar with using avocados in various recipes but had never used them in drinks before. A huge shout-out and thanks to my awesome sister-in-law, Anne, and my niece, Zaylie, that helped me prepare all the food and beverages for our party!
I prepared the Chicken And Bacon Avocado Wraps while Anne chopped all the veggies for the Vegan Avocado Ceviche with fresh avocado, cauliflower, tomatoes, red onion, jalapeno, garlic, cilantro, olive oil, and lime juice. I was questioning the cauliflower, but as it turns out, it was incredibly delicious! We actually ate it as if it was a salad instead of scooping it with chips and we all loved it that way.

We also whipped up a couple of delicious drinks made with fresh avocado; a kid-friendly Avocado and Mango Kick-Starter Smoothie and Agua Fresca de Aguacate. Both recipes were easy to make in my blender. The kids (and the adults) absolutely loved the smoothie and everyone wanted seconds. The Agua Fresca de Aguacate was more for adult taste buds as it was less sweet and honestly, I felt like something was missing in that recipe… tequila! Next time I make the Agua Fresca de Aguacate, I will definitely try a shot of tequila in it and will freeze the honeydew melon to make it a frozen cocktail!

The Party
Attending our party were four children under 10 years old and four adults, including my friend Michelle who is due with her first child any day now! (Avocado is an excellent pregnancy food!)
My 89 year old grandmother attended our avocado party too but insisted that I didn’t take her picture. “I don’t want my picture on that blog thing of yours! I don’t need everyone seeing my wrinkles!” she said. Not only is she super camera shy, but she’s afraid to try new foods. She had never had avocado before, but I talked her into trying a bite of these delicious recipes and she was pleasantly surprised to not only like it but want more!
The kid’s reaction to the avocado dishes was actually kinda funny… Here is a sneak peek at the kid’s thoughts to our avocado dishes…
