Here’s another fashion trend that I’m having a hard time embracing: leg warmers. Perhaps it’s because I came of age with Jane Fonda and Jennifer Beals (if you don’t know who they are, log onto Netflix and do some research…) but leg warmers had their place, and that place was usually in an aerobics or jazzersize class. Or a feature movie about dancing. And truthfully, the only people who could REALLY rock leg warmers were the ethereal dancers of the New York City Ballet, and they always were and always will be, in a class by themselves.
The modern day leg warmer is showing up in every shoe department and “trends” tag on websites from Amazon.com to Zappos.com. And the new leg warmer is a far cry from the bulky, acrylic, machine crafted leg warmers of my youth. Consider the white spat leg warmers available for $20 at shopplasticland.com:
Fugly…but wait…they are sold out and on back order. Hmmm…
Then there are the pink ruffley velvet leg warmers, shown here with open toe platform sandles (one would assume if it is cold enough to need leg warmers you may want to consider a closed toe shoe), available for $150 (that’s right, $150!) at Bellalegs.com:
Regardless of whether or not you would wear these, my question is, would you really pay $150 for such a limiting and limited fashion accessory?
Clearly these ladies know how to work the leg warmer trend:
And their young friend is definitely a budding fashionista:
But once again The Fashionable Housewife wants your opinion: Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down on leg warmers?
