While some people prefer to decorate their home with a different theme and scheme for each room, others want to bring harmony to their lives by employing the same color and design theme throughout their property. But how can this be achieved?
Interior Decor Ideas And Elements
Let us start with the floors. Whatever your preference, whether you like to have deep carpets beneath your feet or eye-catching laminate or hardwood boards, the floor is the best place to start to create a unified look throughout your home. If you are lucky enough to have floorboards already laid in your home, then you could take a good look at them and see if they are of sufficiently high quality to be left uncovered. Ideal floorboards for this purpose need to be tight fitting against one another and be robust enough to withstand sanding or stripping to make them suitable for walking upon. Alternatively, opt for laminate or hardwood flooring. Decide upon one natural wood color, such as beech or oak, for the entire property. If, on the other hand, you prefer carpet, then opt for a plain or less bold pattern. A subtle color or pattern will be easier on the eye and is more suitable for an entire property.
With color, you can still create a unified theme throughout without having to have exactly the same color in each room. Let us take the color orange as an example since it’s my favorite color. You could do orange painted wallpaper in your living room, then take just the same tone of orange to paint your dining room. For your private rooms, such as the bedroom and bathroom, you can have lighter orange or melon colored tones on the walls by keeping them in the same tonal range. This kind of tonal zoning means that you can utilize a unified theme without having every room look the same.
Think about how your home will look from the outside, because all window dressings are visible from the outside. Therefore, your frontage will look better if all the window dressings are the same. However, not all window dressings are practical choices for each room. For example, curtains are not ideal for bathrooms or kitchens, where they can become a safety hazard. The best types of window treatments are plantation shutters. Not only do these look very elegant both inside and out, they are practical for every room in your home, allowing you to regulate the light and heat entering and leaving.
Current trends advocate an eclectic mix of furniture styles, as this is perceived as the best way to demonstrate personal taste. However, this has to be handled with caution, as too many varied styles can result in a visual mess. Your personal style may be best demonstrated by installing one type of furniture, such as Shaker or minimalist, throughout and relying on artwork and individual decorative objects to deliver your personality.
