Healthy teeth and gums are important and no one likes going to the dentist. Especially me!
I went to the dentist last week for my annual appointment. Now, technically, you’re supposed to go 2x a year to get your teeth and gums cleaned and checked. I was due for my 6 month appointment in April and kept putting it off until October, which happened to land exactly one year from my last appointment. They weren’t pleased, to say the least…
Lucky for me, I had no cavities or problems at all!
Now admittedly, I’m not a fan of flossing. (Who is?) I’m going to go out on a limb and admit I only floss like once a month… if even. I hate flossing with a passion. I’d rather rinse with extra strength Listerine 5x a day than floss my teeth once. So needless to say, I didn’t expect my diagnosis at the dentist to be good…
Surprisingly, they said my teeth were gorgeous, healthy, and exceptionally clean! Made me wonder what kind of teeth they usually look at…
Last time I went, she went to town picking away at my teeth, but this time she only scratched lightly at a couple of teeth and then was done! I was so impressed I had to wonder what I was doing differently, because last year they almost hung me by my toes…
Then I figured it out! I’ve been testing out electric toothbrushes!!!!!!!
I started off using the Oral-Bยฎ Pulsonicยฎ in September. I posted about it here and marveled about it’s quiet operation, multiple settings and built in timer.
In late September I decided to give the Oral-Bยฎ Vitalityยฎ a whirl. Then about a week ago I decided to try the Philips Sonicare Sonicare HealthyWhite toothbrush. Whew!
So, in the last 2 months I’ve tried 3 different toothbrushes, just trying to find the best one. All in the name of science I tell ya. I’m looking out for you ladies!
Now, I can’t determine which one is actually “the best” because everyone is different and has different needs! So, I will list my likes and dislikes of each one and you can then pick which one is best for you or your family.
SO here goes…
This awesome toothbrush is the new slim, sleek, rechargeable sonic toothbrush from Oral-B. With more than 27,000 gentle sonic vibrations per minute, Pulsonic’s bristles clean and promote naturally whiter teeth while allowing maximum maneuverability and control with the slim and lightweight handle design.
Clean and Sensitive Modes: Features customized brushing modeso “Clean” mode provides an effective cleaning of your teeth. “Sensitive” mode is designed for the gentle care of your tongue and other sensitive areas.ยท
Small Brush Head Design: The specially-designed Pulsonic brush head contours to the teeth to provide an effective clean. A second Precision Tip brush head is designed to help remove plaque and stains between teeth.
Timer Features: Oral-B Pulsonicโs two-minute timer indicates when the dental expert recommended two-minute brushing time has been reached and an additional professional timer signals at 30-second intervals to encourage thorough brushing of the four quadrants of your mouth.
PROS: I like this one because it’s quiet, efficient and has the multi signals which enables me to clean my teeth effectively without concentrating. After brushing with this one I feel like my teeth are totally clean. I think the sonic action does a great job of removing plaque.
CONS: The first few times I used it I had to use it on sensitive mode because it was just way too intense for me, after several years of using a regular toothbrush. It’s sleek design makes it a litter harder to handle than the Vitality for me, however my husband liked the slimmer design the best out of all three. However, he didn’t like the brush head on this one because he said it made him feel like he had to actually brush, rather than just move it from tooth to tooth, like the other 2 brushes.

PROS: I like the round head on this one which allows you to get every corner or every single tooth. I also felt that this one was more gentle on my gums (which are not used to this much friction!). I also love the hefty, rubber grip handle that allows for a good grasp, unlike the Pulsonic that gets a bit slippery when wet.
CONS: The Vitality is much louder than the Pulsonic, which makes it slightly less pleasant to use. You can’t brush your teeth and watch TV, like I do with the other one. My husband tried this one as well and wasn’t crazy about the size of the handle or the small brush head.

The Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite Toothbrush promises to get teeth 2 Shades whiter in 2 Weeks!! I’ve only used it a few times now, so I can’t see any whitening affect, but I will update you on that in a couple weeks…
Here’s what they say about their toothbrush:
Let the natural whiteness of your teeth shine through. Proven to remove coffee, tea and red wine stains, Sonicare HealthyWhite will whiten teeth up to 2 shades in 2 weeks with regular use of the Clean and White mode.
HealthyWhite also provides superior plaque removal vs. Sonicare Essence, improved gum health and is safe and gentle on orthodontics, dental work, veneers, implant material and sensitive teeth.
-
Three Modes:
* Clean: Standard mode for superior teeth cleaning.
* Sensitive: Gentle, yet thorough cleaning for sensitive gums and teeth.
* Clean and White: 2 minutes of the Clean mode, with an additional 30 seconds of White mode to focus on your visible front teeth.
Ideal for Travel: Includes compact multi-voltage travel charger and case – for a convenient travel solution.
PROS: Everything! It’s almost completely silent, has three different modes of cleaning, has 2 different size brush heads, comes with a case for convenient travel, and when you are done brushing your teeth with it, you feel like you just left the dentist. This is definitely the best electric toothbrush I’ve ever used and just blows the other two toothbrushes away. If you hate going to the dentist, but love the clean feeling you have after you leave, then this is the toothbrush for you!!
CONS: The handle is bigger than the Oral-B Pulsonic, but that’s not really a CON for me. My husband liked the slimmer handle on the Pulsonic. Other than that, I don’t really have anything bad to say about this one.
