The laundry room is almost always an afterthought. They are usually tucked away and not really taken into consideration when you are doing home improvements. It’s a case of the form being strictly under function.
This isn’t to say that a laundry room needs to be the centerpiece of your renovated or redecorated home. But, it can be improved in many cases to where it doesn’t give you anxiety every time you enter the area.
In this article, we will give you some ideas on how you can make some improvements to make a stylish laundry room you will actually want to be in.
Maximize the space
More often than not, a laundry room is wedged in somewhere with the bare minimum of space. This isn’t a bad thing as you just need enough room to get the job done. However, you can get more out of what little space you have so the space you use for laundry is better utilized.
Make sure that there is plenty of room on the walls and even the ceiling so you can use all of the available space by going up. For pure practicality, make sure to get rid of any hanging lamp from the ceiling and replace it with a flush or semi flush mount light so you don’t have it hit your head. Little renovations like that make a big difference.
Use the walls behind the washer and dryer for shelves if you have the room. If there isn’t enough space for a shelf then you can put a bar across from wall to wall on which you can hang bags. These bags can be for storage of your cleaning products to keep them out of the way and make your dreams of a stylish laundry room come true.
Create a workspace
Often, people use their laundry room to simply wash and dry clothes. When it is designed properly, it can serve many different functions related to laundry.
An ironing board can be tucked away by hanging it on the wall or even using a folding one that attaches to the wall and opens up when needed. This way you can open the dryer and use the ironing board without having to haul the laundry basket around the house. This can also double as a folding table if you only need to take the clothes out of the dryer to be folded.
Have two different baskets set up so that laundry can be sorted. This saves you time from having to take clothes out of the hamper to sort them by color or fabric.
Make it stylish
You can have a stylish laundry room that looks just as nice as your bathroom so it feels nice when you walk in. have it match the decor by using the same colors as the rest of the house for the accents.
You may want to instead have it be more colorful and vibrant and actually clash with the rest of the house if the area is closed off from the living space. If the laundry room is exposed to another room then a stylish curtain can be used to separate it and match the style of the room.
