Our bodies are amazing machines, and with them, we can do anything we want to. We can climb mountains and swim oceans. We can create life. However, even the smallest of feats wouldn’t be possible if we weren’t entirely healthy, which is why it’s crucial to keep our bodies as healthy as we can at all times. When we do this, we can extend our lives and do much more – plus we won’t get so sick.
There are many different elements you can bring into your life that will help you to be healthy. A good diet and regular exercise are just the start; read on to find out what else you can do for self-care this year.
Get Enough Sleep
One of the best things you can do for self-care is to get enough sleep. This will differ from person to person but will be around seven to nine hours each night for most people. Sleep deprivation has been linked to a variety of different conditions, including heart disease and obesity, which is just one of the reasons why you should try to sleep as well as possible. Another reason is that the body finally has a chance to re-set and start to heal itself when we are asleep. If we don’t get enough sleep, this won’t happen.
Ideally, you will have a set bedtime routine, and you’ll go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day – even on weekends. Doing this helps the body’s natural circadian rhythm become stabilized. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try to remove any screens from your room (blue light from those screens can cause insomnia) or engage in some meditation. If you continue to have problems, speak to a doctor who will be able to help you.
Regular Health Screenings
Regular health screenings are crucial for self-care. Being seen by an expert means any problems can be picked up quickly before they become too difficult to treat or too disruptive in your life.
You should see your doctor and dentist every six months and your optometrist every two years to keep your overall health in check. Of course, if you feel unwell or notice a potential issue in between appointments, don’t hesitate to seek out some help and advice for this. Waiting for your next appointment, even if it’s only a short distance in the future, could mean that problem becomes more pronounced.
You can test at home for many health issues. Knowing what is going on with your body is an important part of self-care. If you simply want to check your overall well-being with a thyroid test or check your cholesterol with a quick Cholesterol Test, then LetsGetChecked is your answer!

Eat Non-Toxic Foods
We do, of course, know that eating a healthy, well-balanced diet is vital for good health and self-care. However, you should also ensure that the food you’re eating is non-toxic. After all, food is what keeps your body moving and function, much like fuel in a car. Filling it with the wrong foods, foods that might even do you harm, will cause health issues and can even act as a poison within the body.
Much of the fast food and junk food that is available will contain plenty of unhealthy additives, and that is perhaps to be expected, but some foods that you might otherwise consider to be healthy can have these issues too. Make sure you read all the labels to find entirely natural food, and when you can’t, wash everything thoroughly before you eat it.
