5 Home Security Tips for Keeping Your Family Safe

How do you secure a home, and enjoy your well-earned comfort? Well, there are many ways out there to do this. They all depend on multiple factors ranging from cost, to the risk status of the occupants. For instance, the home security needs of a politician are higher than those of a doctor, or just any other ordinary citizen. But these factors held constant, there are certain measures that can help secure a home, irrespective of its occupants. To help you out with selecting smart security products, here are 5 great home security tips for keeping your family safe.

1.    Install an Intercom system

Sometimes a security risk to your home starts with you opening the door to strangers when answering the door. To avoid this risk, install an intercom system in your home. With an intercom system, you are able to see who is knocking at your door, as well as all the surrounding areas to the front of your home. Many even allow you the opportunity to speak through an intercom to the person on your doorstep. Being able to communicate with the person knocking can allow you to find out what they want while they are still outside.

2.    Install CCTV Cameras

Installing a CCTV system is another great way to protect your home from crime. You can’t always be in so fitting cameras and a DVR will allow you to watch over your property even when you are out. The CCTV recorders available from online suppliers such as DTS Digital allow you to download compatible smartphone applications which enable you to connect to your system from anywhere in the world and view live footage, replay recorded footage and even control pan tilt and zoom cameras. These kits are very easy to install and configure and are also relatively cost-effective options compared with other types of home security systems. Setting up the app on your Android or iPhone device is now very straightforward and usually just involves downloading the software on to your mobile and then scanning the QR code on the DVR settings menu using your smartphone and then it’s ready to use.

3.    Install digital locks

Digital locks are another great way to secure your home. With these locks, someone would need to have your password for them to break into your home. To enhance the efficacy of digital locks, it is best to combine them with other security measures such as traditional locks and CCTV cameras. This can slow intruders down significantly, and even stop them altogether.

4.    Make use of sensor lighting

Sensor lighting allows you to identify motion in your yard, and take appropriate measures. These sensors only turn the lights on, when someone walks close by. Not only does this alert you, but it can also deter an intruder from taking any further steps. That’s because, they become aware that the lighting sensors will draw attention to them.

5.    Have safes in your home

In spite of all these home security measures, someone might still manage to get into your home. That’s why you need to minimize the damage they can cause. One of the best ways to do this is to use safes. A safe box with a strong password can help you keep your valuables safe, even when intruders manage to break into your home.
