I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Kmart & March of Dimes. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
As most of you know, March of Dimes is a non-profit organization that raises money to help provide support for pregnant mothers and babies. Almost everyone associates March of Dimes with preemies because they do put a lot of focus on prenatal care in hopes of preventing premature births. They also help many families with newborns who were born prematurely. That isnโt all that they do though and that’s what we’re going to discuss today!
I think it’s important to support the effort of March of Dimes being a preemie myself. I was born 2 months premature via emergency c-section when my mother unexpectedly got transverse myelitis that paralyzed her from her waist down. We spent 2 months in the hospital together while she underwent numerous tests and procedures. We eventually were allowed to go home, but my mother was still in a wheelchair, paralyzed and unable to walk. Two years of physical therapy and a miracle, she finally recovered feeling in her legs and learned how to walk again. Being born prematurely made my childhood a struggle since my immune system was not fully developed and I undoubtedly have asthma as a result of being born early as well. Thankfully, my mother was able to breastfeed me for 26 months despite her inability to walk or care for herself. I am so thankful that she got the support she needed to do that since breast milk is so important for preemies development.
