Fashionable Boat Covers Are A Thing
It doesn’t matter where you keep your boat when it’s not actually sailing, you should have a customized boat cover to protect it. This cover will protect your boat from the sun, rain, snow, airborne pollution, birds and rodents, and dust. The sun will eventually fade the upholstery and woodwork of the boat, and, more importantly, the components of the boat will expand and contract as they heat up and cool down. It can also deter opportunistic thieves, who may spy something on or in the boat.
The Different Types of Boat Covers
Storage and trailer covers
These covers have to be secure-fitting and also reinforced in the high-stress and high-wear areas so that the cover can stand up to extended periods of high-speed road travel. Storage covers can be a little looser as they aren’t used for traveling, so there are no wind problems.
Cover fitting types

Each boat is unique, so we’ll need to design and make it fit like a glove. Customized covers are expensive, but you’ll be grateful each time you put it on and take it off as it’s an exact fit. It’ll also last longer.
There are semi-customized types that are designed and made for hull-styles; they’re cheaper, but not as well-fitting.
Universal fit covers are made just for particular sizes. They aren’t right for extended or bad weather protection, or for road transport.
Fender covers
These protect your boat’s topside from rubber fenders. They also block out UV rays so your fenders don’t melt, smear and get sticky in hot sun.
Outboard engine covers
You might want a separate outboard engine cover to offer extra protection for the motor.
The best cover material
There are many materials to choose from – polyester, acrylic, polyethylene, and vinyl. Vinyl is easier to clean, but you need to think about the prevailing weather your boat will have to contend with. You need to think about breathability and water-resistance and choose function over form.
UV and damp-resistance
If you’re storing your boat in a humid region or area then you need a breathable material with good mold resistance. For direct or strong sunlight you need good UV-protection, so ask us about the best fabrics for this.
Color is surprisingly important
All covers fade or discolor over time, but bright or intense colors show it sooner and more. Dark colors build up heat, which could damage the boat underneath and intense colors could bleed into your upholstery. This is why most boat covers are light blue or light gray – not the most exciting, but usually the most functional!
Measuring up
You need accurate measurements when you order your cover from us. Measure the center line first, then the beam width (at the widest point). You should take into account things like swim platforms or bow pulpits too.
It’s important to get these measurements right because if the cover is too small and tight, the seams will stretch and break. If it’s too big, it’ll rustle and blow in the wind, which can cause tearing. It’ll also sag, which will collect water, leading to mold. It’s tricky, but we’re here to help you!
