Most of ladies love to shop. I for one, find it one of life’s best pleasures. Perhaps being a former clothing designer made me love to shop too, but for whatever reason, it’s in my blood. That being said, fashion can also be quite frustrating. Especially when a certain blouse or jeans that you absolutely adore doesn’t fit quite the way it should or doesn’t look as cool on you as it did in the magazine or website. That’s when you should take note of your shape and taste in clothing — not become a “slave” to fashion. For example, just because those skinny jeans or baby doll tunics look great in the magazine ads doesn’t mean it would look great on you. Don’t become a victim into buying something just because its in style. You will look worse wearing something that doesn’t fit you, or isn’t right for your height or shape. Whether you are the thin, heavy, short or tall, it’s important to choose the right styles & fit for your body first, rather than what the latest celebrities are wearing. Wearing the proper fitting clothes and shoes is what’s important, not copycatting what the “It Girls” are buying. (Besides their wardrobes are a lot more disposable and budgets a lot grander than mine or yours most likely!). Another example: I for one, look much better in boot cut jeans that skinny jeans (which I LOVE). But boot cuts are more figure flattering to my curvy shape and doesn’t make me look stumpy.
Now, if you are in perfect shape – fantastic! But some of us are trying to lose weight, gain weight, tone up, or recuperating from major illnesses, etc. What’s important for one’s self esteem and to help motivate you to reach your goal is to first of all have a positive outlook. You WILL ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL! The solution — find styles and colors that compliment your shape and skin tone and accentuate what’s positive on you. Find clothes that are good transitional pieces that will work with you as you achieve your desired weight. If you’re thin and trying to gain, and own tee shirt dresses for example, that make you look lost in them, try belting them with a cool belt that you can later remove as you achieve your desired weight. If you are on the voluptuous side and looking to lose, try the opposite! Loose fitting dresses that skim over your curves can also be belted once you reach your desired weight. Make fashion work for YOU, don’t you WORK for fashion! You’ll be happier in the long run and look marvelous too. I for one, love most of the latest trends in clothing and shoes. I love all those high-heeled platform shoes you see on people like Jessica Simpson. However, for certain reasons, I simply can not wear them. Instead I try to find lower heeled versions of them and if I can’t, so be it. I will find another pair of cool shoes that I can walk in and look stylish in without making my bunions cry out for mercy. My world won’t end because I can’t wear 4 inch platforms.
The bottom line is wearing the clothing that is appropriate for your body shape & type not only makes you feel good, it will ALWAYS be in style !
