Being that I love a good deal, I couldn’t pass this up when I saw it – Ethos Dusky Argyle for only $50. Yup. A woven wrap for only $50. Allright, here’s the clincher… it’s an “ugly duckling” meaning that it has unusual nubs and bumps, perhaps a row or two of skipped threads and overall basic cosmetic flaws. But when you’ve got it all twisted and wrapped around you 3 times, who’s going to notice little imperfections like that? Nobody!
So I bought it.
Upon receiving it in the mail today, I immediately opened it up and looked it over. At first glance, I could not find anything wrong with it! So I looked closer, a little slower this time. I was determined to find the defect. After a few minutes, I finally found 3 skipped threads on the inside “wrong side” of the wrap near about 3/4 of the way down. Honestly, you really would have to sit there (with your glasses on) and inspect the wrap to find it.
That tiny imperfection made it 50% off the regular price. Yeah, I’ll take it!
Our first wrap job with this beauty and my little man was sleeping within 15 minutes. Right out of the package it was soft and cushy, ready to go. Honestly, it’s not a color scheme I would normally gravitate towards, but I think I will get used to it. Plus I think it will probably look great with my red hair…
I got a size 5 and found the length to be perfect for a basic front carry, which is what I normally do. The height of the wrap is shorter than my Vanamo so I don’t know if I will try a back carry with this one since I like a lot of extra material to bunch up under his bum when I do a back carry.
This is a mid-weight wrap so not really warm enough for north east winters but not too thick to wear in the summer. It’s right in that happy range of thickness making it great for indoor wearing year round and outdoor wearing as long as the weather isn’t extreme in either direction.
I definitely recommend getting one of these “Ugly Duckling” wraps if you want a woven wrap but have been turned away by the high price tags that usually come with woven glories. This is a great, high quality wrap that would also be great for a lending library. For all you wrap snobs, it would make an excellent emergency wrap to keep in the car or diaper bag.
