We were so lucky to have been able to participate in a live stream/chat last week with Elizabeth Hurley(@elizabethhurley) and Marisa Thalberg (@ExecutiveMoms), VP, Corporate Digital Marketing for Estee Lauder in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness this month of October and also to promote their truly amazing BCA Campaign, where we can all work together to “Shine A Light on Breast Cancer”.
Elizabeth and Marisa took questions from Health and Beauty bloggers about breast cancer awareness, the campaign and the ultimate goal of finding a cure for breast cancer. Elizabeth and Marisa both looked beautiful, not just in their looks but in their passion for the cause. October is Breast Cancer awareness month and Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign is kicking off its “Shine A Light on Breast Cancer” social media program.
You can check out the Live Stream here, where Elizabeth talks about everything from the campaign to her guilty pleasure (God love her, it’s PASTA) to being addicted to jeans to more importantly empowering women to take their health into their own hands.
We shared our story of personal experience regarding Breast Cancer with Marisa and Elizabeth. My grandmother is a survivor and really took her health into her own hands and fought her cancer tooth and nail. Elizabeth’s grandmother was also diagnosed but unfortunately Elizabeth’s grandmother did not survive. This experience has made Elizabeth more adamant about getting the word out and ensuring that women are doing self breast exams, getting mammograms after 40 and raising awareness themselves/taking care of themselves.
We asked Elizabeth what the most important message she felt needed to be conveyed about Breast Cancer: Breast Cancer is detected early it is 90% curable. She thinks that mammograms are the most important. Give them as a gift, encourage your loved ones over 40 to get them and don’t discount men. Men now represent 1% of those diagnosed with breast cancer. You take your health into your own hands.
This year, the BCA Campaign launches a provocative integrated digital program that centers around a Facebook application that will live on the BCA Campaign’s Facebook page. Please go there right now and share a message of hope. We are totally ready to participate and of course we want you to as well! The application was inspired by the BCA Campaign’s Global Landmark Illuminations Initiative, through which more than 200 prominent global landmarks are lit in bright pink lights as symbols of hope and empowerment. “TOGETHER. Connect. Communicate. Conquer. For a Future Free of Breast Cancer.”
And so you know, we won’t leave out the shopping! What are some of Elizabeth’s favorite product from the Elizabeth Hurley Pink Ribbon Collection which of course also help raise money and awareness for the cause?
