Don’t be that Mom!
I recently decided to stay home full time with my children after working a wretched job that basically had no redeeming qualities except for a paycheck. It has been quite an adjustment for my wardrobe to say the least!
I was used to wear power suits and high heels on a daily basis. I had that down! I miss my heels and my fabulous dry clean only clothes – but let’s face it – that just doesn’t cut it for chasing around two preschoolers all day long. (Unfortunately they aren’t impressed with power suits unless it involves a “Power Ranger” and all my heels are now subject to “dress up” so most of them have been put in a safe place to avoid calamity!)
There are some days that I will admit that a plain old t-shirt and comfy jeans are certainly in order. But on days when I am taking the kids to playdates, preschool or errands I try to look at least presentable. A nice flat or loafer (heels on occasion to keep me going!) a nice, clean, well tailored pair of jeans or casual pant, and a nice sweater or top that is cute but machine washable. In addition I always try to accessorize. A belt is a must and at least a nice bracelet or earring to tie it all together. I’m not talking fussy here people – just put together.
This may seem frivolous to some, but to me it makes me feel good and keeps me up on trends and fashion. But there are some moms… I won’t point fingers – maybe some that I see at Target or the grocery store – that seem to only have active wear! Don’t be that mom! A nice sweat pant here or there is fine – but come on ladies! We’re beautiful and smart and talented – show yourself off!
Here’s two quick ideas on out and about outfits. They aren’t too much – but still look nice and presentable!

I am that mom – but I totally agree with you. Nothing can make you feel better more than putting on a great outfit.!!
TOTALLY agree with you! I’m trying to spread that message around my town! Great inspiration…
Love the casual-chic outfits. And if I may add my .02. Since I can’t carry a stylish bag due to babe in diapers, I love my Skip-Hop diaper bag in bright red. It’s sporty, simple and easy to clean–adds a punch of color when I’m wearing my drab mommy yoga pants.

$400 for a sweater?!?!?!?
Barking Dog Shoes: You CAN still carry a stylish bag with a kid in diapers… I just buy large purses!!! Then I just throw in three diapers and then I fill a ziploc with wipes (so I don’t have to buy the travel size wipes) and then there you go – purse becomes diaper bag and looks tres cute! On any given day you can find diapers, sippy cups, pacifiers and “kid” snacks all in my purse!
Seabee: Don’t be alarmed by a $400 sweater – use it for inspiration! It is a classic chunky cardigan. And you can easily find one very similar for much less where you shop!
Keep the comments coming… I always love to read what you gals are thinking!
I was happy to see the converse chucks make the list. When a heel just is not appropriate ie. the park, the baseball field, etc. I throw on my chucks and I am out the door. I have two pairs, navy blue with laces and off white without laces and they really compliment a great pair of jeans to create a sassy mommy outfit on the move. thanks for the tips!
I love the outfit suggestions!!! Too many times I have been in the rut of trying to find something to wear and end up looking drab! I agree, wearing something like one of these two outfits not only looks great, but makes me feel great as well!
