So, I went to dinner at Outback Steakhouse tonight. I met my husband there after he got out of work. We were seated right away and our waitress was great and very friendly.
I ordered the Fresh Tilapia with Pure Lump Crab Meat which consisted of fresh tilapia crowned with a crab stuffing, then topped with pure lump crab meat and sliced white button mushrooms, finished with a drizzle of light lemon-butter Chablis sauce. Served with fresh grilled asparagus.

Okay, now wipe up the drool off your keyboard and let me tell you how it was.
It was FANTASTIC! It was served to me exactly like it shows in the picture. It did look like a small portion on the plate, but I finished and was full, so it was actually quite filling. The fish was tender and juicy and very yummy. And the asparagus was sooooo delicious – cooked perfectly and not stringy at all. Even the crab meat and Cablis sauce was good! I was skeptical about how the mushrooms would be (since I don’t really like mushrooms) and to be honest with you, I don’t think there were any on my plate. If there were, I didn’t taste them or see them. Maybe they were invisible mushrooms?
With my meal I ordered a Coke Zero, which came with a free NCAA Commemorative glass, which was a cute little promotional thing they were doing and had on the back of all the menus.
First sip of it was interesting, as I had never tasted Coke Zero before. It almost tasted like a cross between Sarsaparilla, Birch Beer, and Moxie. It was good but odd!
When I got home, I Googled “Coke Zero” and found out that Coke Zero is sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame potassium (ace-k) and has zero calories. The only chemical difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke is that Coke Zero has about half the aspartame but has more ace-k. So that’s what that “odd” taste was.
So all in all, it was a pretty great meal and I went home full and happy. It was unfortunate that I was too full to have desert because they had a great new dessert “Chocolate Thunder From Down Under.”
Drop on by an Outback Steakhouse before the end of April and try one of their 4 new Birthday Specials. If you haven’t ever been to an Outback, this would be a great time to try! If you order one of the limited time specials and a Coke Zero, you get a free glass with it!
If you’ve been to an Outback lately and tried one of the new items, please leave a comment and let us know what you though!
