Daycare Center Tips: Choosing the Right Facility for You

If you are a parent returning to work after parental leave, one of the most stressful decisions you will make is choosing a daycare center for your child. With many options available and the high cost of childcare, it can be challenging to know where to look. 

Here are 5 tips to help you choose the best children daycare facility for you and your family:

#1 Consider Location

Begin by making a list of available childcare centers in your area. If you have a vehicle, you may be able to travel farther to get to your child care center than if you have to take public transportation. Some parents prefer finding a facility close to their place of work so they can make drop-offs and pickups on the way to and from work. 

Most quality child care centers have a waiting list. Once you’ve narrowed down your options, be sure to put your name on the list for your top centers. Try to get on the list 1 year to 6 months before you need care — it sounds ridiculous, but spaces are hard to come by, and they fill up fast.

Most parents are happy to give you an honest opinion about daycare centers. Be sure to talk to people you trust and share the same philosophical approach if that is important to you. You can also take a look at online reviews and comments, which can give you valuable information about other’s experiences in the daycare center. 

The most crucial tip on choosing a daycare for your family is to trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. Be sure to do your research, ask questions, and take your time; you will find excellent care for your child.
