Spring 2009 Hair Trends & Hairstyles
In 2008, everyone got a short haircut, including me. I started off with the uber popular pixie cut. My hair grows super fast, so next I tried the Katie Holmes inspired bob haircut.
Now the only problem is, we all have short hair! And the predicament being that the popular hairstyles of 2008 aren’t going to be that hot in 2009. They are going to look so “last year”. Very tired looking and no longer unique.
We’re left with only 3 choices at this point…
-
1. Keep our cropped bobs and risk blending into the crowd
-
2. Cut our hair even shorter in an effort to stand out.
-
3. Let it grow and see how long we can get it before bikini season.

If you’re like most of us, you have shoulder length hair or shorter right now. What are your plans for your hair in the coming months? Will you keep your Bob or go shorter a la Agyness Deyn?

Yikes! I think I’m going to be sticking with my natural red hair, thank you very much.
I have been thinking about growing my hair out… My husband likes it long, plus I think it makes me look younger. And I betcha come Fall 2009 long locks are going to be the “it” thing.
Tells us what your plans are for your hair in 2009?
From reading the lists, it seems the hair CUT trends for Spring 2009 are all for short hair, and are directly opposite to the hair STYLE trends for Spring 2009 which are more for long hair — I am going for the mid-length “POB” (Victoria Beckham pre-pixie crop). My hair is chin length and graduates to a shorter length, stacked out in the back of my head. I want to grow it to just above my shoulders, but not down my back. I think it’s probably a style that is a classic, and hair issues are complicated when the styles go from short to long in 1 season. My guess is that a lot of the stars sporting pixies will be in the same boat. Hair extensions, anyone?
I’ve already got the super short pixie, and blonde hari..so I’m going blonder and keeping it super short. I live in Florida where its hot, humid, and having kids makes no time! so staying short and light is the way for me…wash and style in very little time, off the neck for when I’m outside with the kids, and super short so I can ride with the jeep top off for fun!
For the past six years I have worn my hair fairly short. I love my stylist, and I never tell him what to do. I sit in his chair and he works miracles. Same with my colorist. Right now, my stylist is adding length in the back and on the sides, so I’ll have a new look come spring. Can’t wait to see what he’s got up his sleeve!
i already have the katie holmes longer version of the bob. my hair is deep brown/black, so not going blond.
i was wearing it straight but got lazy over the weekend and let the curls come out because it’s growing out and i was trying to decide what to do next. i got so many compliments, think i’ll be sticking to it as the hair grows out.
it reminded me of the sofia loren/marilyn monroe look. very glamourous and easy for me to do; with a newborn, for me it’s ideal…
I am with the group of people that have the mid-length hair and can’t do a thing with it. I need to find something to do with it because I am moving from Boston to LA. Living in LA I don’ t want to be the ‘small-town’ looking girl in a town that has much more fashionable women. Please post more about things I can do to make my unruly and wavey hair. I need as much help as I can get.
It’s funny how many people have the same problem right now. I had the pob and went shorter and shorter and loved it but it’s so expensive to maintain…I decided to grow it out and now it’s to my chin and Im contemplating cutting it again as Im already frustrated with the inbetween phase!
Same here…in between. Doing my best to leave it alone and let it grow!!! Agree with Bon, VERY frustrating!
New to the site, love it!
wow…i guess i am not alone
this is truely a serious dilemma
i have been searching on the internet for a new hair trend for 2009
i want to grow my hair long but it is so hard to keep it stylish until it is long
I actually have really long hair, and I was actually considering hacking it off for a shorter, more trendy cut. However, after reading this… I guess I should keep the length. I have thin, natural blonde, but recently went for a dark brown color, and my hair goes to the middle of my back. I’m just kind of sick of the length, even though I think it looks great… sometimes its just too much to maintain. Thoughts?

Mine is chin length soft (not edgy) bob and i’m considering going shorter. i had it mid-back length for 2 years and i’m loving the shorter hairdo, daring me to go shorter.
I had the uber trendy Pob last year and I’m currently trying to grow it out into a longer almost sholder length style. I’m thinking a blunt cut and some natural blonde highlights. My hair is naturally light brown and I’m not about to go Peroxide blonde! I recently had my stylist add side swept bangs to my bob. I guess fringe is in right now.
In the same exact spot you are Lindsey. I’m just stumped, I dunno what to do…
I’m in the same spot as you Lindsey and Lauren… so I’m spending a late night researching before I go to the salon! Here is my take, if your hair is long and fairly thin, stick with it! Thin hair can hold long hair styles easily, and can be quickly tossed into an updo for a “shorter” look. If your hair is too thin, a short cut is a great way to add volume (as mentioned on this site), so a short cut is a good idea. I have long thick hair… and not in a good way. I am going for a just-below-the shoulder “Eva Longoria” cut because I can easily decide to cut shorter or grow longer later. Tip- for those out there trying for length, prenatal vitamins are a great way to grow out your hair and nails quickly.
I got my bob cut into a longer pixie. I figure with risk of looking ‘last year’ I will be having highlights done. I walked out of the salon feeling like a FOX… I may go shorter ‘pixie crop’ this summer – depends on my mood. I LOVE that my cut is wash and go – with 3 children I need to be able to do just that, and it even looks good when it gets messy – in fact the messy look make the cut, look more daring and more chic on me.
I have naturally red, curly hair, that I am growing out, a la Jennifer Aniston. I think we should go with what we like – if we feel good in it, that feeling will radiate out!
