Dyson DC-14 Animal Vacuum

My husband got me a purple Dyson “Animal” vacuum for Christmas. Normally, a wife would be insulted to receive a vacuum for Christmas, but not me! I’m the Fashionable Housewife! Getting a Dyson vacuum cleaner is almost like being given an award for good housekeeping.

Anyway, so of course, I was anxious to try it out. I took my Christmas tree down 3 days after Christmas because it was dead as a doornail and was dropping needles everywhere. Great time to try out the vacuum!

After my husband hauled the dead and mostly naked tree outside, I was left with an tree’s worth of needles strewn across my living room, the hallway, and out the door. So I pulled out my beautiful purple vacuum. What an amazing piece of plastic.

Forget the instructions – it was all intuitive! It was like it was made for me. I started happily vacuuming the living room, then the hallway, and then I got a little carried away and started vacuuming everything. It just worked SO GOOD! You have no idea what it’s like to really vacuum until you’ve vacuumed with a Dyson.

About 45 minutes later, the canister was full of a million Christmas tree needles and more dog hair than is physically on the dog. This vacuum sucked up dog hair I didn’t even know existed! Wow.

My husband looked at the full canister on the vacuum and commented about how it sucked up so much dirt. I agreed and said, “Okay now we just have to figure out how to empty it. We lifted the canister off the vacuum and started eyeing it. Hubby looked it over and said pointed to a little button. “Maybe this opens up the top some how?” I looked at it. “No, I don’t think that’s it…” Then I saw a red button. “Hey maybe this is it!” I said as I pulled it.

What the hell was I thinking was going to happen?

DUH.

The entire contents of the canister had emptied onto the oriental carpet in the living room. “Yup, that was it,” my husband said slowly as we both stared down at the pile on the floor. Then we started laughing… which quickly turned to choking and coughing from the dust.

I got a full blown allergy and asthma attack and had to go outside, while my husband picked up the pile of dirt with a dust pan and broom, since it was all in a neat pile. Then he got to try out the vacuum on the rest of the dirt, while I was outside trying to breathe.

So that was my first experience using my gorgeous Dyson vacuum.

I highly recommend the Dyson… just read the directions before you use it. And don’t pull the red lever on the canister unless you are outside over a garbage barrel…
