Rethinking Crocs…
A couple of weeks ago, I got an email offering free shipping plus 20% off at Piperlime, which was particularly timely since I needed another pair of shoes for an upcoming trip to Mexico. I wanted a sandal with a bit of a heel, something polished enough to go with casual dresses at dinner but suitable for days of walking and wandering.
I stumbled upon the perfect pair— the kind of shoes I could envision myself wearing while marketing in Mazatlan and slipping on for cocktails in Cabo. And what luck! They were already marked down to $39.99, which made them a cool $31.99 with my discount! I was just about to add them to my cart when I spotted a scary word hovering above the product description: CROCS.
Let’s just say that I’ve never been a fan of Crocs. Their signature clunky styling and lollipop colors add up to a big NO in my book, even if fans insist they’re the most comfortable shoes ever created. Because let’s face it: when someone’s primary description of an item is “so comfortable,” chances are it’s pretty ugly.
So I felt some serious hesitation about purchasing the Crocs Havanas, part of the new, more fashion-forward Crocs line. It didn’t matter that I liked the picture; it was like ordering onion ice cream– I just couldn’t fathom that the result would be good. But since I had free shipping and free returns, I decided to roll the dice.
And I am very glad I did! The moment I slipped them on I told my husband, “Oh my God, these are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.” They have cushioning in all the right places, so even though I’m wearing a 3″ heel, I feel like I’m just floating along. Seriously- I can walk for miles in them. And while no one would mistake them for cutting edge couture, they are perfectly cute and versatile, which is just what I need them to be. An added bonus: since they have that rubbery Crocs sole, I can put them in the tub and wash them. Like I said, I’m not a Crocs aficionado, so I have no idea if that’s recommended, but it works for me!

OMG…How funny…I felt the same way when I purchased my Crocs Havanas for my trip in July to Paris/Monte Carlo. I got a pair in Navy Blue and wanted them for walking in the museums and on the beach. Loved the heel…Here is my word of advise – The only problem I had was I got blisters right at the base of both big toes. It is where the foot gets the most pressure from the heel height. The moisture, pressure and friction (the little nubby things) were just too much for a day in Paris. Not sure how to prevent but be warned….
I still love them and have renamed them (My cute rubber shoes) and I am still a CROCS hater.
Have fun in Mexico!
