This morning, I did some research on the internet and discovered that the average American woman today wears a size 12! I was surprised. Most fashion sites focus on the woman who are size 2-6. So I want to change my approach here a little bit to incorporate all sizes! Besides, chances are if you are a mom, you don’t wear a size 2 anymore!
I think beauty comes in so many different forms. It’s misleading to make the general public think that just because they aren’t stick figures, they can’t be fashionable. So in today’s post, I have compiled a few helpful fashion tips and hints for those of you that are curvy and voluptuous!
A staple item in your closet should be a good suit. A longer jacket will create a balanced look by supporting your chest and thinning your torso. And a great pair of wide leg pants should flare a bit at the bottom and have some room in the leg.
A fuller-cut skirt that flares away from the body can help balance a larger chest.
Bright colors and prints will bring attention to an area so make sure you wear them wisely and only on your most flattering body parts.
An oversized handbag makes a great accessory. Choose a shape that flatters. Square and rectangle shapes compliment a curvy figure. Just make sure the strap length doesn’t drop your pocket book right in a problem area. You don’t want the bottom of the handbag to rest on your hips!
Another staple item in your closet should be a one-piece body slimmer. This simple item will create a sleek, smooth look under your dresses.
If you are larger on top than the bottom, do not try to overcompensate by wearing large, over-sized, shapeless clothing. They key is to wear slim v-neck tops. This makes your neck appear longer and is usually quite flattering! “Boatneck” cut tops are great for making your waist and hips look smaller, while maximizing your sexy shoulders. However, avoid this type of top if you have broader shoulders.
You want to bring attention to your waist. High waistbands bring the eyes up so people aren’t focussing on your hips and behind. It also hides your tummy!
The most important thing to remember, is that you want to create an hourglass figure. This is the most flattering of all shapes. No matter what your body type, you can create curves in the right places simply by wearing the right styles cuts of clothing.
Things to remember:
Proportion can play tricks on the eye.
Dark tones like black and grey create long lines.
