We all need a little boost in the beauty department now and then. In fact, it can do our world of good because when we invest time and money, it shows that we value ourselves. Of course, this can be tricky to do if you have lots of other priorities and responsibilities jostling for access to your cash. Like raising four boys, for example!
Luckily, there are some glowing skin tactics you can use that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Read on to find out what they are!
Feel better on the inside look better on the outside
If you want to glow on the outside without spending a fortune, you need to pay attention to inside. In fact, as the body is a holistic system we can make the task of looking great a lot easier by taking care of our overall health.
With that in mind, one low-cost action you can task is to make sure that your diet is packed with antioxidants like beta-carotene. Yes, the stuff in carrots which are crazy cheap. In fact, beta-carotene is particularly good at dealing with the reactive oxygen that is associated with UV rays. Something that means plenty of carrots can help you to minimize skin damage and stay looking as young and fresh as possible.
Please. Drink. More. Water!
Another vital tactic is to drink more water. It’s so easy to do as well! The benefits, of course, are huge from reducing puffiness, and wrinkles, to boosting complexion. It’s certainly not an expensive option either. You can even get a water filter for your refrigerator if you want to drink the stuff out of the tap and save even more money.
Nourish your hair and body naturally.
Next, another low-cost way of getting a glow-up in to take things into your own hands, literally. That is, have a go at making your own beauty products at home.
One way that you can do this is to create a DIY hair mask. In fact, one that contains honey and coconut oil can provide you with benefits such as moisturisation, strengthening, and sheen. Also, both honey and coconut oil contain ingredients that make it easy for your hair to soak up the nutrients it provides, and that lock in there so you get the full effect too.
To that end, dollop together 1tbsp of honey, and the same of coconut oil and heat until melted. Then apply this to your hair, cover over with an old towel to keep the heat in and sit for around 15 mins. Once your time is up, rinse, and you should have incredibly healthy glowing hair, that barely costs you anything at all.
Homemade body butter
Of course, it could be that it’s your skin and body that needs help. However, before you go out and blow your budget on expensive moisturizers, why not have a go at making body butter at home?
Once again this recipe calls for coconut oil, which you probably already have if you tried the hair mask recipe above. Additionally, you’ll also need coconut butter here. This latter ingredient is what gives it a thicker, more butter consistency.
Using a bain-marie meltdown 1 part oil to 3 parts butter. They put this mixture in the freezer for around 15 mins. You want it to be soft but not liquid. Once it’s at this consistency whisk the mixture until fluffy. Store in a glass jar and use as necessary for up to 2 months! Easy, cheap, effective and vegan too!
Brighten your smile
Many people also choose to focus on their teeth during a glow up. After all, having a bright white smile can make all the difference in how we look and feel. Of course, this can be a bit of a problem for those of us who haven’t got perfect pearly whites. Not to mention the fact that dentistry can often be a hugely expensive endeavor.
There is good news here, though, and it’s that there are other teeth improving options to consider. One of these is to invest in clip-on veneers as a way of creating a straighter and whiter smile. In fact, they are so easy to use and look so natural that many people prefer this option to that of permanent ones.
Additionally, clip on veneers don’t require any painful dental work to be fitted. They are also vastly cheaper than the permanent dentistry options as well, so they make an excellent choice for the budget-conscious too.
The Right Lipstick
Another option for those of us looking to make our smile seem brighter and whiter is to change up the type of lipstick that we are wearing. Now, you may have heard that red lips can help to make your teeth look as white as possible, and this is true, but only the right shades of red will work.
What that means if you need to pick a lipstick that has blue undertones rather than orange ones. This works because yellow and blue are opposites on the color wheel and a toned blue lipstick will help to cancel out any yellow in your teeth. While an orange tone one will only emphasize it.
Of course, if you are having trouble tracking one down asking for help at the makeup counter is always a good shout. The reason being that the specialists there will be able to advise you on the type of tones present in their products. Additionally, blue-toned red lipsticks can be found in most ranges, so you really don’t have to shell out a fortune to get the glow-up effect you are looking for here.
Shine, for real
You can also choose to glow up by embracing a little more shine in your life. One of the simplest ways to do this is to start using a highlighter on your face. Although many people are a little terrified of this product. Perhaps because if it’s not done well, you can end up just looking glittery rather than ethereal! The good news is that with the right guidance and some minimal practice, you too can apply your highlighter like the queen of shine herself KimK.
First of all, it pays to know that highlighting is there to balance your contours. That means any part of your face that is higher than the other and would catch the light can be emphasized with a highlighter. Think cupids bow, and the top of cheekbones rather than forehead here. Of course, the great thing about this is that you can leave higher off any parts that you would rather take a back seat as well!
The way you apply your highlighter matter as well, and blending is the real secret to keep it looking natural. With that in mind, a pointed makeup sponge is the best bet. The great thing about this being you can pick up both a highlighter and sponge from the local drug store for around $10-15 in total! Something that makes sure this option is most definitely not bank-breaking at all!
Finally, the last way you can give yourself a glow-up on a budget is to wear a little jewelry now and again. In fact, just the act of putting on a favorite piece can boost both the way we look and how we feel.
Of course, some people believe that jewelry has to cost a fortune to look good, but this really isn’t the case. In fact, you can get some great sparkle with replica gems, or even lab-grown ones as opposed to ones that have been hewn out of the Earth.
You may even wish to opt for a preloved piece as these can be purchased at vastly reduced priced compared to new. Something that will help with boosting your glow, without breaking the bank.
