The Most Amazing Make Up…Ever…

About a million years ago when I was in high school, Clinique came out with a Lip Shine that wasn’t a matte lipstick or a gloss, but a combination of the two, which instantly became a hit with women everywhere.  One of the colors offered was #16, Black Honey.  What was so amazing about this particular color is that it flatters EVERYONE – regardless of your skin tone or eye color or your lip shape and texture.  Black Honey is probably one of make up history’s great all time achievements!  And now the color is being translated in to a Shimmering Tones Powder that may rank up there as make up history’s all time great achievement #2.

Clinique Shimmering Tones Powder in Black Honey

Clinique’s Black Honey Shimmering Tones Powder is a limited edition, multitone powder.   The cult favorite Black Honey shimmers in this beautifully blended powder, instantly creating a sheer, subtle radiance that looks great on everyone, just like the classic that inspired it.

Believe me, this powder is like magic.  I’ve been sick for the past few days, and when I looked in the mirror this morning my skin resembled a cross between the Crypt Keeper and Princess Fiona (after she married Shrek…)  Two swipes of this shimmering powder and, damn, if I didn’t look healthy and vibrant!  It’s even better on a good day, giving you just enough sparkle that people say, “Wow, you look great…did you cut your hair or something…?”  I don’t know what it is about the Black Honey color, but it does something magical and it works for everyone and with every skin tone.

Available for a limited time only through Sephora, Shimmering Tones Powder in Black Honey retails for $32.50 – and it’s well worth the investment!

15 Minute Valentine’s Day Makeup

If you’re pressed for time on Valentine’s Day, this quick 15 minute guide to getting gorgeous will help you save time and still have you looking pretty for that special someone – or for just a night out with the girls!

1. Prime

Start with a clean, moisturized face, and use a foundation primer to help even out your skin tone and keep your makeup flawless. I like e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer ($6, eyeslipsface.com,) but feel free to use your favorite primer for this step.

2. Foundation/Concealer

For light coverage, a tinted moisturizer is best, followed by spot treating problem areas with a bit of concealer. However, if you need full coverage, choose a lightweight foundation like Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Foundation ($50, Sephora) for buildable coverage that lasts. Use a foundation brush or a makeup sponge for a smooth finish.

3. Blush

Impart skin with a rosy glow by dusting CoverGirl TruBlend Blush Naturally Luminous Powder in Pure Romance 425 ($7.29, drugstore.com) over cheeks.

4. Eyes

Because you’re in a hurry, choose one eyeshadow to sweep over lids and in the crease. For a standout look, choose a shimmery neutral like taupe, sand, bronze or something in between. Make sure to line the upper and lower lash line with black eyeliner, such as Prestige Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil ($5.25, drugstores) and coat lashes with one to two coats of a volumizing and lengthening mascara.

5. Lips

For lip color that lasts all night, choose a lip stain that you can simply sweep on and forget about. One to try: NYC Smooch Proof 16 Hour Lipstain, ($4-6, drugstores.) If you prefer a glossy finish rather than a matte look, simply apply the stain and then coat lips in your favorite clear gloss for a shiny, sexy finish.

5 Party-Ready Nail Polishes for the Holidays

If you want your nails to look as good as the rest of you this holiday season, try one of these party-ready nail polishes to complete your festive holiday look.

Sephora by OPI Spark-tacular Top Coat

Dubbed “jewelry for your nails,” this sparkly top coat from Sephora by OPI adds the perfect finishing touch to your manicure. Simply use your favorite nail color, then add a coat or two of this festive top coat over tips for a party-ready mani in a flash.

($9.50, Sephora)

OPI Las Vegas Collection Royal Flush Blush

This pinky-blush hue shows you don’t have to go overboard for fantastic holiday nails – it’s the perfect “neutral” to show off on fingers or toes! I think it would look especially fantastic peeking out of peep-toe heels, and it adds just the right amount of color without being too in-your-face. Plus, anything with “Las Vegas” in the name has got to be party-worthy.

($8.50, drugstore.com)

Lancome ‘Le Vernis’ Golden Hat Holiday Nail Color

Five shades are available from Lancome’s Golden Hat holiday nail collection, but my favorite is the one at left (Golden Hat 101.) It’s the perfect juicy berry shade, and I think it would go great to liven up a little black dress. Put it on fingers and toes for a mani/pedi that will be perfect for the holiday season.

($15, Nordstrom)

Forever21 Plum Glitter Nail Polish

I’m partial to this shade – purple is my favorite color – but it’s also a fantastic alternative to traditional red or silver polish for the holiday season. This deep royal plum shade contains plenty of sparkle to make sure your tips and toes are as festive as the holiday party you’re heading to. Plus, it’s incredibly budget-friendly.

($2.80, Forever21)

Deborah Lippman Nail Color in Boom Boom Pow

Finally, this party-ready and incredibly festive gold glitter polish from Deborah Lippman is a great shade to wear for Christmas or New Year’s! Wear it alone for a subtle sparkle, or let this polish really shine as a  top coat over a complimentary metallic gold shade. However you choose to wear it, you’ll definitely make a splash.

5 Makeup Bag Must-Haves for the Holidays

The holiday season is a busy time for all of us – simplify your routine with these five makeup bag must-haves that will take you from work to play to one holiday party after another, all season long!

1. Red Lipstick

This season, it’s all about the perfect red pout. Even if you’ve never worn red lipstick before, you can easily find a flattering shade for your skin tone. Trust me – there is the perfect red lipstick out there for you, so don’t be afraid to own it and flaunt your perfect pout this holiday season. One to try: e.l.f. Mineral Lipstick in Royal Red , $5, eyeslipsface.com.

2. Gel Eyeliner

Longer lasting than pencil liners and easier to apply than a liquid, gel eyeliners are the perfect way to play up your eyes this holiday season. They take a little effort to master, but once you pull it off you’ll love how long-wearing gel liners are! Grab a basic black shade for a classic smokey eye, but don’t be afraid to be daring and add a splash of royal purple or blue to your holiday look. One to try: Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, $21, Sephora.com.

3. Illuminating Highlighter

Leave the glitter body gel to teenagers and instead subtly highlight cheekbones, decollete and other strategic areas with an illuminating highlighter to help you look luminous and radiant for all of your holiday parties. One to try: Victoria’s Secret Luminous Cheek & Face Highlighter, $14, Victoria’s Secret.

4. Metallic Eyeshadow

Personally, I think metallic eyeshadow looks great any time of the year – but especially during the holiday season when you really want to make a statement! Silver and gold are my go-to colors for this time of year, but feel free to play around with unexpected metallic shades such as teal or purple for a unique look. One to try: SEPHORA COLLECTION Mini Eyeshadow Palette – Metallize, $12, Sephora.

5. Tinted Moisturizer

A lightweight, tinted moisturizer can help create the perfect canvas for flawless makeup application and allows your skin to breathe. If you’re more of a full-coverage gal, you can still get by with a tinted moisturizer by choosing one with more coverage. One to try: Benefit Cosmetics you rebel SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer, $30, BenefitCosmetics.com.
