Wearing: Goody Ouchless Hair Ribbon Elastics

goody

I’m wearing Goody Ouchless Ribbon Elastics in my casual summer updo. I french braided the top of my hair and pulled it back into a messy bun with the Ouchless Riboon Elastics and secured it with a hair stick. I have a huge selection of hair sticks from when they were popular back in the 80′s. So grateful I still have them because they are one of the only things that keeps my exsessively heavy, thick hair secured back in a bun. Otherwise I would need about 9 pounds of bobby pins.

Goody’s NEW Ouchless Ribbon Elastics offer you a unique hair tie to personalize your ponytail. As beautiful as ribbons but soft and stretchy too, these hair ties are “knot” your average elastic. New Ribbon Elastics are both comfortable and fashionable, plus look great in your hair or on your wrist.

Product Feature:

  • • Unique knot style hair tie
  • • Soft, stretchy ribbon material
  • • Looks beautiful on the wrist or in the hair!

You can get these ribbon elastics at Walmart and Target.

What is your favorite way to wear your hair during the summer?

Outfit Ideas: My Unique Signature Style

Through the years, you’ve seen from looking at my outfits that I have a unique style. I don’t normally replicate what other people wear and I have a style all my own. Some people love it, some people hate it.

The thing you have to remember is that you can’t please everyone! When you get dressed in the morning, don’t worry about what everyone else will like. Dress in whatever makes YOU happy! If you don’t feel great in whatever you are wearing, people will see that in your mood and your attitude. If you think you look great, that will radiate out of you and your confidence will show. That can help you at work, at play and in whatever you do throughout the day.

When I get dressed in the morning, I of course try to look GOOD in whatever I wear and make sure it’s flattering, but I don’t always dress according to the current trends.

Sometimes I’m glamorous…

And sometimes I’m frumpy goth…

Sometimes I dress like a typical mom…

And sometimes I dress like a teenager…

No matter how I dress, even if I’m trying to imitate a certain style, I still have a flair of my own… Most of my clothing is neutral colors and at least 45% of my wardrobe is black. I just discovered recently I only have like 2 pieces of clothing in my entire wardrobe that are RED! I have a red sweater (pictured above) and a pair of red shorts. That’s it! I definitely need to get more red into my wardrobe…

I would say my style is mostly bohemian in flavor, but sometimes I like to be glamorous, classy and sexy.

No matter what your style is, make sure you love it and you are comfortable in your own skin. Dress to flatter your shape and your body, but don’t always dress to please others. Be happy in your own skin and create your own signature style that expresses your one of a kind personality!

Get the High Bun Hairstyles just like Celebs Love!

The Bun is back, and it is back in a big way. There are many different versions of the bun, tight, loose, twisted, puffed out, simple and the list goes on. One of the more popular hairstyles these days is a high bun placed on the crown of the head. Check out some of our favorite versions from some pretty celebs.

Do you want to try this look yourself? It really is simple to achieve and you’ll look glam without too much trouble!

Here are some tips to get this look:

  • When your hair is wet, apply a smoothing product (we recommend John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Fixation Smoothing Creme, $5.50 ) and let your hair air dry.
  • If you don’t have time for air dry, blow dry your hair smooth. You don’t need a straightener or curling iron.
  • Once your hair is dry, secure your hair into a tight pony and be sure to place it on the crown of your head. Make sure you brush in all the loose hairs so you get a smooth look.
  • Once in the ponytail, add a bit of  the smoothing product for some shine and to remove any flyaways.
  • Now simply take your ponytail and wrap into a circle until you have a little of your pony left and pin secure into place. Once you have the desired look, spray your hair to keep it in place (we love  Aussie Sun touched Hi Hold + Hi Shine Hair Spray).

You Choose Meghan’s New Do Poll & Giveaway *CLOSED*

So we here at The Fashionable Housewife like to have fun and in having fun, we obviously love to get our awesome readers involved… enter the “You Choose Meghan’s New Do” Poll and Giveaway. We have a volunteer, Miss Meghan, who will be getting a new and exciting haircut based on what you, the readers decide. We will give you Meghan’s before (both front and back) and will offer you 4 choices of her “After”… based on which style gets the most votes, Meghan gets that haircut. She is brave, although I am pretty sure we are all stylish, so she has it pretty good. To make this even more fun? Each time you cast a vote, tweet or share on Facebook, you will be entered into a drawing for some awesome hair goodies… but let’s start with Before and Afters, shall we?

She is lovely already, we know… but she is ready to branch out and try something different. Her hair has been long and straight for quite some time now… but what to choose?

With the choice of #1, Meghan will be cutting off quite a bit of length and adding quite a few layers. Side swept bangs and layers to frame her face, this look could be quite the departure from her norm.

#2 also brings a much shorter length but this time brings in some angles that her current do does not have. This haircut is edgy and sharp, something that might be fresh and exciting?

Can we say bangs? Hairstyle #3 will be a nice change with blunt bangs and angles that frame the face. Longer than 1 and 2, this style is sexay and different. Would this suit Meghan best?

With #4 comes long layers and sideswept bangs, playful and light. This versatile style could bring Meghan from straight to sassy with just a few snips?

Now which will you choose?

We will be doing a follow up with Meghan’s before and after shots (so we can all see how glamorous our choice was) and also announce a lucky winner. A lucky winner for what? Well, like I mentioned before, with every vote you cast, you are entered into a drawing for an awesome giveaway. We thought it would be fun to give away some pretty darn cool hair care products in honor of a pretty darn cool hairstyle poll! One lucky reader will win a prize package provided by The Fashionable Housewife that includes some of our favorite products from Organix®, The Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil collection, valued at over $30.00!

Voting for your favorite style is your mandatory entry. Choose #1, #2, #3 or #4 and tell us why you like it best!

Hair Bungees for the Perfect Ponytail

If you live in ponytails but can’t find a hair elastic that is durable enough or tight enough, you must try the Hair Bungee.  Unlike regular hair elastics that are shaped in a circle, Hair Bungees are a single piece of specialized elastic with hooks on both ends. You simply hook one end of the bungee into your hair, wrap around the ponytail and fasten with the other hook.  You can adjust the tension to accommodate your style, allowing for a tight or loose ponytail.Hair Bungee is ideal for:

  • Creating up-styles
  • Achieving smooth & sleek natural ponytails
  • Creating polished hairstyles with minimal effort
  • Thick, curly or unruly hair

Hair bungees are a single piece of specialized elastic with hooks on both ends which lets you wrap and  unwrap your hair without pulling, snagging or tugging. You simply hook one end of the bungee into your hair, wrap around the ponytail and fasten with the other hook.

Hair Bungees are great for thick and/or curly hair, and they come out easily with no snagging or pulling.

Hair Bungees come in packs of two in black, brown and blonde, and retail for around $5.00.  You can find them at Amazon.com or Birchbox.com.

Playful & Pretty Chignons at Alice & Olivia Fall 2011

Alice & Olivia’s fall/winter 2011 collection by Stacey Bendet received a  fresh and playful accompaniment to the clothes with a fun hair look.  Thanks to lead stylist Thomas Dunkin and the Sebastien Hair Team, the models sported perky chignons as they presented the collection. The collection, along with the hair, evokes timeless elegance and unabashed glamour while speaking to the girl who’s flawlessly fun and full of life. The wistful elegance of the clothes pairs well with the very polished yet still flirty aspect of the chignons.

As you can see the hair is twisted at the front and tightly pulled back for a secure slightly undone bun. The chignons have a smooth, sleek polish to them. Try Sebastien Light Whipped Creme Conditioning Whip to get your hair smooth and ready to be manipulated. Accenting with a pretty clip, will add polish to this very flirty take on the simple “Fashion Bun” we’ve been seeing lately.

You can see with this one, they pulled out a few wisps to make it seem slightly undone.

You can easily emulate the effect of these chignons with a ponytail by twisting the sides (as seen on the model above) and leaving the ponytail loose.

For more on Sebastien hair products you can check out their website.

What do you think of this look? Are there any miracle products that make styling your hair a breeze?

We have exclusive tips from celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson from TLC’s What Not To Wear!

Star Hairstylist Recommendations:

“My favorite trends that will be hot for this spring are ombre highlights. I also think we’ll see at lot more pixie cuts and for those with shoulder length hair will rock sexy waves.

To get these waves be sure to spray Ted Gibson Build It Spray on damp hair. Blow dry hair in 1-2 inch sections using a round brush. Then section by section, curl your hair using a large barrel curling iron; this will create stylish waves. Set with Ted Gibson Beautiful Hold Hair Spray and you’re red carpet ready! Celebrities who rock waves include Mila Kunis, Beyonce and Jessica Alba.”
