How To Wear Bright Colors for Spring

It’s time to pack away those dark, wintery colors and bring on the pastels, neons and other bright colors for spring! We are seeing more bright colors than ever this season but it can be overwhelming if you are used to wearing neutrals. Don’t worry, incorporating bright colors into your spring wardrobe is easier (and less circus-like) than you think!

HOW TO WEAR BRIGHT PANTS:

Pair brightly colored jeans or pants with a basic striped tee, a chambray shirt or denim jacket and nude flats. Easiest outfit EVER.

HOW TO WEAR BRIGHT SHOES:

Pair bright shoes with denim skinnies, neutral blouse or tee (think white, gray, nude, pale pink), a neutral blazer (like navy, black, dark gray) and a brightly colored necklace or other bright accessories for a hint of color in your ensemble. Check out the bright accessories below for ideas!

HOW TO WEAR BRIGHT ACCESSORIES:

If you are afraid of color, start with some fun, brightly colored accessories like this coral scarf or yellow bubble necklace. Pair them with anything you would normally wear from a sundress to jeans. Mix and match! I like to carry a bright bag or colorful wallet like the one above from MyWalit. It just screams happiness!

HOW TO WEAR BRIGHT DRESSES:

If you are ready to pull out the big guns this spring, shop for a brightly colored dress in one of this season’s hottest hues like neon yellow or bright pink. Pair with a denim jacket or neutral colored blazer and nude heels for a look that is both fashion forward and ready for spring!

Whats your favorite way to wear bright colors? Are you afraid to step outside your comfort zone?

What To Wear While Christmas Shopping

Christmas Shopping Housewife

It’s that time of year again! Everyone is desperately trying to get their Christmas shopping done in time. Who can be bothered with what they look like right now? Well, please… I beg of you! Don’t go out of the house in sneakers and pajama pants. I’ve seen WAY too many ladies out shopping wearing the most absurd and unacceptable outfits this month. Don’t be one of them! Just because you are distracted by holiday shopping doesn’t mean you have to scare people while you are doing it. It’s just as easy to be comfortable AND fashionable. That’s what we are ALL ABOUT here at The Fashionable Housewife.

So we’ve compiled a few tips on what to wear as well as some outfit ideas to get you inspired for dressing up this holiday season!

Things to keep in mind when you get dressed to go out Christmas shopping…

  1. COMFORT! Nobody cares if you are rocking your 4 inch stilettos in the mall. Really. Find your most comfortable, yet STYLISH jeans, like these Lee Perfect Fit Skinny Jeans, and strut your stuff. Don’t head our in pajama pants and sneakers! You will scare the other shoppers and make a spectacle of yourself.
  2. WARMTH! I don’t like lugging my coat around the stores, so I dress with many layers that I can peel off one at a time as I get overheated. Start with a tank top or cami, followed by a long sleeve shirt, a sweater that is easy to get on and off, and top it off with a vest, bulky knot sweater or light jacket.
  3. ACCESSORIZE! Just because you are comfy doesn’t mean you can’t look glam! Don your most sparkly jewels, like these sparkly Penguin Studs from Fossil, and get into the festive spirit of the season.
  4. FOCUS! It’s easy to get distracted while doing your Christmas shopping but try to stay focused! Only one week left before Christmas so now is the time to buckle down and get things done! Try apps for your iPhone like Retale to help get things done faster and cheaper.
  5. TIME! Keep track of time by wearing a stylish watch like this Decker Chronograph Stainless Steel Watch from Fossil so you don’t have to keep pulling your iPhone out of your pocket all day.

Wondering how all that translates into real life? See below…

Fall 2013 Trend Alert – “Double Denim”

The Fashionable Housewife was selected by KOHL’S to be one of their featured fashion bloggers to give our expert advice on how to “Master The Fall Trends”!

First we showed you how to rock “New Classics” for around $100 and now it’s time to see how we styled Double Denim for $100 at Kohl’s!

Fall Trend #2 – True Blues
Head-to-toe denim is no longer for the fashion fearless. This fall, Kohl’s makes it possible for any woman to rock a double denim look with a little help from a chambray shirt, skinny and boyfriend silhouettes and the denim jacket! The best part? This look can be tailored to any style: whether classic, preppy, or bohemian, just mix washes to master the true blue trend.

We came up with three different ways to do Double Denim (click here to see) and we decided to go with a more classic take on the Double Denim trend.

The huge selection of chambray and denim shirts and jackets at Kohl’s was astounding. Most of the denim and chambray shirts were around $20, some were even on sale for $9.99. I found so many shirts, jacket and jeans that I loved, I had a hard time deciding which outfit to get!

Today’s Outfit: Rock & Republic Jeans from Kohl’s

Rock & Republic

Today I’m wearing another pair of Rock & Republic jeans.

Rock & Republic Kashmiere Skinny Jeans are super soft and super stretchy. I am not really crazy about the light wash coloring and the particular shade of blue, but they are so incredibly comfortable and fit me so well, that I couldn’t care less. I love the back pockets too. Right now these jeans are on sale for $39.99 at Kohl’s stores and kohls.com.

Jennifer Lopez Sweater

J Lo Sweater

Now let’s talk about this adorable Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s Colorblock Ribbed Sweater. It was originally $54 and I got it on sale for $10.80. Score! Super soft and silky. I love it.

I found a cute Simply Vera by Vera Wang layered necklace on sale for $7.60 that I paired with a Princess by Vera Wang necklace of a poodle in a frame. It was on sale for just $4.40!!!!

Vera Wang Jewelry

I even found some matching earrings on sale for $3.60. My daughter quickly snagged those from me when I got home so they didn’t make it into this outfit, like I had planned.

Today’s Outfit: Rock & Republic Jeans and Sweater

Rock & Republic for Kohl's

Check it out… It’s another pair of Rock & Republic jeans! I saved the best for last…

These Rock & Republic Berlin Skinny Jeans have gold studded R’s on the back pockets that are endlessly cool. I think they go great with this Rock & Republic black cable knit sweater I got on sale for $8.40! It was originally $84.00. What a bargain, right? I love the iridescent sheen on the front. It’s kinda flip-flop color in the sunshine too which is cool.

I also found this amazing Sonoma brand necklace at Kohl’s, on sale for $4.80 (Originally $24.00). It came in brown leather with gold studs (shown below) and gray leather with silver studs. I decided to get the gold one because all my “eclectic” jewelry is gold tone.

My mom actually came across these earrings while we were shopping together in Kohl’s and insisted they were totally “ME”. On sale for $5.60? Yes, I brought them home! I really like them because not only do they go with the necklace, but they go with a lot of other items I already own. Definitively a good investment!

Today’s Outfit: Catherine Malandrino for Kohl’s DesigNation

Catherine Malandrino

I’m rocking a Striped Oversized Cardigan from Catherine Malandrino’s new DesigNation collection for Kohl’s! I’m only 5’2″ so it’s really oversized on me! I love it though because it’s like a blanket. Soft to the touch and seems like it will wear well. I will be wearing this sweater a LOT this winter!

Today’s Outfit: Rock & Republic Destroyed Denim

Rock & Republic

Today I’m rocking some sweet fitting Rock & Republic Jeans with a cute top I snagged at Kohls last week for just $15.99.

First off, these jeans are amazing. They fit like a glove – as if they were tailored just for me! I’m 5’2″ weigh around 110lbs and the size 2 fits like a dream. They have just enough stretch to them to be comfortable, but not so much that they start looking like leggings. Very flattering cut and the sequins behind the distressed holes are a unique and surprising touch. The style is Rock & Republic Berlin Distressed Skinny jeans and while they retail for $88.00, we all know that you never pay full price at Kohls! Almost everything is always on sale and there are so many ways to save at Kohls, it’s ridiculous.

Rock & Republic Distressed Jeans

My favorite section to shop in Kohls? The jewelry section! I always find so many awesome pieces for insane prices… We’re talking like less than $5 per piece.

The necklace I’m wearing was $3.60, people. How do you beat that?

These two Rock & Republic for Kohl’s bracelets are no exception either. Each one was less than $5 on sale! You’ll have to head into stores to find these pieces because I think the whole Rock & Republic jewelry line is on sale right now. I bought at least 10 pieces… Everything was so cute, I couldn’t resist!

Rock and Republic Jewelry

These Rocket Dog Black Ankle Booties are going to get a LOT of wear this Fall. So many different ways to wear them and they are surprisingly comfortable.
