Winter Hair Care Tips for Men, Women, and Kids

Winter Hair Care Tips for Men, Women, and Kids

The harsh winter months take away any lingering warmth of the fall, and with it, they can take away the shine in your hair. In the winter, your hair and skin may be prone to more damage than usual as the cold weather can dry it out. This means that your hair care and shaving routine may require a bit of a change during the chilliest months of the year.

Hair Tips for Everyone

In the winter, slight tweaks in your routine can go a long way for better hair. If you want to avoid dry, frizzy hair and itchy, blotchy skin, you need to revamp your hair care routine for the cold. With our winter hair care tips for men, women, and children can all have flip-worthy hair all winter long.

Wash Your Hair Less Often

Shampooing your hair every day can result in brittle and dry hair. Though itโ€™s typical in our culture to shampoo virtually every day, itโ€™s simply not necessary. Simply rinsing your hair with water is enough for most hair types to get rid of excess oils and dirt.

Plus, according to health experts, โ€œFor most people, shampooing the hair is not necessary for good health. Just rinsing the hair with water a few times a week will remove most visible dirt and debris. The decision about how frequently to actually wash the hair is a cosmetic one based on personal preference.โ€ While your hair might not need actual shampoo several times a week in the winter, don’t skip the shower altogether. Dry weather can cause dandruff, so my personal winter hair care tip for everyone is to at least get hair wet several times a week and possibly add conditioner on the ends of the hair where it’s more likely to dry out.

If you find yourself with dandruff, I personally recommend Maple Holistics Tea Tree Shampoo and conditioner. Their products work great and are natural!

Take Shorter Showers

Another change you can make is to take shorter showers at moderate temperatures. Though it can be tempting to get into a hot shower, doing so will work to dehydrate your hair and skin. Taking the temperature down a few degrees wonโ€™t sacrifice your comfort too much, but it can result in drastic hair revival.

Look for Healthy Hair Care Products

Silicone, sulfate, and alcohol are all common in hair products and found in many shampoos. However, these ingredients will work against the moisture in your hair and will dry it out. You should avoid products that include these ingredients, including shampoos, conditioner, hairspray, and other styling products.

While these winter hair care tips might not seem budget friendly, I assure you that finding natural and healthy hair care products are totally doable! Check out Organic Hair Care with most of their products costing less than $6.

Facial Hair Maintenance for Men

beard

For men, a few extra winter hair care tips for their facial routine can go a long way. Whether itโ€™s figuring out the best way to wash your face or finding a good moisturizer for your beard, facial care is essential for your winter hair health.

Check Your Daily Facial Routine

Men who regularly shave may be more prone to dry facial skin. This is why it is important to make sure you optimize your daily facial routine. This means you should be washing and moisturizing your face daily according to your skin type. If you have sensitive or dry skin, then you should use a gentle, foam cleanser. If you have oily skin, then you can try a stronger cleanser. For combination skin, you can use a gentle cleanser every day and exfoliate your skin twice a week.

The same applies to your moisturizer. Sensitive skin requires a gentle, unscented face lotion. Dry skin might need an extra moisturizing cream. Oily skin needs something light. It might take some trial and error, but you should take the time to find the best products for your skin. This includes using the best electric shavers that wonโ€™t irritate your skin. Not only is this important for keeping your face clean and smooth, but it will also help it from drying in the winter after you shave.

Moisturize Your Facial Hair

Moisturizing is the key to keeping your hair healthy in the winter, and this is no exception for men. Whether you have a beard, mustache, or both, you can apply oil to your facial hair to keep it healthy and strong. Winnipesaukee Beard Oil is my husband’s favorite. It’s all natural, chemical free, and handcrafted here in the state of New Hampshire. Nothing better than supporting a local business.

Also, just as with regular hair, you should trim your facial hair often to get rid of split and dry ends.

Natural Hair Tips for Women

Women typically have more hair care needs due to more frequent and intricate styling that can cause damage to hair. Plus their hair is usually longer than men and children’s too! Women, especially those with long hair, may need to follow a few special winter hair care tips to keep their hair soft, voluminous, and healthy.

Trim Your Hair Often

Frequent haircuts might sound scary to some women, but are still a good idea even if you want to grow your hair out long. Trimming your hair every few weeks will prevent split ends and get rid of the dried up sections of your hair.

Deep Conditioning Hair Masks

Deep conditioning hair masks can help reverse the damage caused from the winter weather, coloring your hair, and heat-powered styling tools. You can buy hair masks in stores, or you can make your own hair masks at home using natural ingredients that are likely already in your kitchen.

One of my top winter hair care tips is to not let dandruff get the best of you! Dry heat and cold weather can cause your scalp to dry out, just like your skin, and this can cause unexpected dandruff. Shampooing your hair more often can make the problem worse, not better! I recommend a natural dandruff relief shampoo and rinsing hair a couple times a week to solve dandruff issues. Don’t expect dandruff to resolve on it’s own and don’t immediately run for Head & Shoulders.

Hair Care for Kids

Though kids are usually more resilient than adults, there are still plenty of ways that you can help your kidsโ€™ hair stay healthy. Some simple lifestyle changes can achieve this without making it too difficult for parents to keep up.

Bathe Before Bed

One of our top winter hair care tips for kiddos is not to bathe them unless it’s necessary as this can dry out their skin and hair. However, if they are dirty and really need to get clean, bathing your kids at night will eliminate the need for using the blow dryer on their hair before school. It’s better to let children’s hair air dry whenever possible because their hair is usually fragile and dries out more quickly than adults. Please keep in mind that you donโ€™t need to wash your kidsโ€™ hair every night, despite what the media would have you believe!

Make Hydration a Priority

Making sure your kids get plenty of water is a great way to ensure the health of their hair โ€” and their bodies overall. Encourage your kids to drink as much water as possible. If this is difficult because of the cold, you can try giving them a caffeine-free tea to keep them warm and get healthy liquids in their bodies.

By adopting these winter hair care tips during the cold months, you can make sure that you and your entire family have soft and healthy hair all season long!

Luckily, there are holistic wellness products that can help make the motherhood journey easier!

Lost Empire Herbs stands out as a remarkable family venture led by three health-conscious brothers who share a profound dedication to a wholesome, active lifestyle.

Their journey began with a modest kitchen table and the introduction of pine pollen, but it has since evolved into something truly remarkable, exceeding all expectations.๐Ÿ˜ฑ

What truly sets Lost Empire Herbs apart is their extensive collective knowledge, derived from years of hands-on experience, unwavering commitment, and a willingness to explore new horizons. Driven by a genuine desire to enhance lives, they made a resolute decision to make the benefits of these exceptional herbs accessible to a wider audience.

Their primary focus revolves around offering hormonal support, a vital consideration given the prevalence of endocrine-disrupting compounds in today's world, although their scope extends beyond this singular realm. ๐ŸŒฑ

I'm genuinely enthused about the prospect of trying out their products, eagerly anticipating the chance to personally experience the transformative effects of these wellness herbs. The brothers' evident passion and expertise have left me intrigued and eager to embark on a journey towards total wellness, guided by the offerings of Lost Empire Herbs.
