The average Mommy Makeover patient is not trying to look like an ageless celebrity mom like Jennifer Lopez or Gwen Stefani. They just want to look like themselves again.
We don’t have to tell you that motherhood isn’t great for your appearance. You simply don’t have time for all of the little things like extensive skincare, proper hydration, counting calories, working out, and that other thing you used to do… What’s it called again? Oh yeah. Sleep!
Your life is all about the little people that you care for, so you don’t really have time to think about yourself anymore. But still. You miss the way you used to look and feel about yourself. And you wonder if it will ever be that way again.
This feeling leads a lot of women to consider plastic surgery. They find themselves Googling things like “how much is a tummy tuck” or “what is a mini facelift?” They’re searching for procedures that will help them look and feel like themselves again. One of the most popular being the “mommy makeover“.
A Global Shift in Attitudes
A few years ago, there was a general stigma about plastic surgery—it was just for the super-rich and the superficial. But that mentality is now as out-dated as the need to have a landline.
Over the last 20 years, we have seen the following numbers skyrocket:
- Total cosmetic procedures: +169%
- Total cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures: +237%
- Breast lift (Mastopexy): +114%
Earlier this year, 1000 people with no history of plastic surgery were surveyed and nearly 49% said they were open to getting their first procedure. If we look back a few years, a similar study in 2014 found that only 17% were open to their first procedure, and 49% were flatly opposed to the idea.
The COVID-19 lockdown has been one of the key factors in the recent shift in attitudes. Thousands of people are seeing their faces on Zoom calls and finding things that they want to change. This has been dubbed the Zoom Effect and plastic surgeons have actually seen a 60% increase in business during the lockdown.
Regaining Your Pre-Pregnancy Body
Losing your baby weight is hard, and gets harder with each child.
You don’t have the time (or motivation) to work out, and a special diet isn’t reasonable when you’re cooking for a whole family. And even if you’re able to lose the baby fat, you’re often still stuck with loose skin and stretch marks that cardio can’t fix.
This is why the so-called Mommy Makeover has grown in popularity over the years. This procedure gives you a combination of liposuction and a tummy tuck that can help get rid of unwanted skin, fat, and stretch marks.
One freelance blogger/mom wrote that she got the Mommy Makeover because she wanted to “be a better mother, to feel free again to take my kids to the park, minus the persistent anxiety of concealing my body.”
She added that she wanted to feel like the woman she was before she had kids and that’s why she got a mommy makeover.
