A child’s first Christmas is something very special indeed, and it’s something that you’ll remember forever. It’s not something that your child will remember, though – especially if they are newborns. What does that mean when it comes to gifting? You’ll want to buy something, but what? Here are some great ideas for your newborn to receive this Christmas.
Toys
Of course, toys are always a popular idea for a newborn’s first Christmas. Some toys are better than others, so do some research before you pick one. Soft toys such as teddy bears or teething rings are a good choice, but if you can combine that with something educational, that’s even better. Why not see if you can find a toy that has lots of different textures on it? These toys are wonderful for engaging a child’s senses. They might make sounds, or even light up too.
Clothes
When a child gets older they probably won’t appreciate clothes at Christmas (not until they’re teenagers anyway), but newborns have no choice in the matter, and they will always need more clothes because they grow supremely quickly too. Buying clothes in the next size up, or even two sizes up means that when the time comes for them to fit properly, they’ll be ready and waiting in the closet. Take a look at the Mothercare Christmas sale and you can find some great bargains, meaning you can really stock up on extra clothes.
Savings Account
It may seem strange at first, since a newborn has no need of money, but this is going to benefit them when they are a lot older – and it’s good to start as soon as possible. Opening a savings account and committing to putting a certain amount of money into it each month means that by the time they are 18 and you hand over the account to them, there could be a seriously useful amount of money in there.
Jewelry Box
A jewelry box doesn’t have to contain jewelry, and it doesn’t have to be only for girls. All children can enjoy a beautifully ornate box – perhaps made from silver, or even carved wood – and it can be a place for them to keep their little trinkets that they collect over the years. What’s nice about a box like this is that you can have it personalized, so that it’s even more special.
Bedding
A lovely, colorful bedding set for a newborn is a wonderful gift. As with clothing, babies tend to get through bedding quickly – whether it’s a diaper leak or they have reflux, bedding can need to be washed a good number of times. Having a spare set or two in the closet can make those night-time changes even easier. If you are co-sleeping, you might want to invest in a waterproof puddle pad from LittleBunnyBear to protect your mattress or your baby’s mattress too.
