It’s time for a bathroom refresh! Your bathroom is often a place that gets neglected during a revamp of your home, as many people feel that it is generally a smaller area in your home and that there is not much that can be changed in order to bring it on trend. The reality is though that this could not be further from the truth, and with a few simple changes to your bathroom, you can bring it right on trend.
Here are some of the top trends for bathroom decor in 2016โฆ
Get creative with tile patterns
Tiles are the best material to have in your bathroom due to the high water exposure. Paint can become chipped, and carpet is both unhygienic and impractical in a bathroom. But, this is the year to get creative with your tile patterns and steer away from the more traditional layout. Neutral colours have been around for a long time, and interior designers predict that this style is here to stay, but introduce a new, and updated modern feel with an unusual pattern.
There are many different patterns that you can choose from for your bathroom floor, and if you are unsure, a brilliant one to start with is a herringbone design. Brick effect tiles are best suited to this pattern, and will create an eye catching and chic feature in your kitchen. Chevron, basketweave and windmill designs are expected to become huge this year too. To make your design really stand out, use a contrasting coloured grout. This will make your bathroom makeover really pop!
Metallics
Metallics will continue to be huge throughout the home, and can add a really modern twist in any bathroom. If you decide to introduce metallics into your bathroom, try and keep everything else fairly neutral, to ensure that they become the focal feature. They will reflect any light in your bathroom, which is ideal if you have a small bathroom, and will inject that bit of style and glamour.
To bring this existing theme up to date, think about matte finishes. And in particular brushed nickel and oil-rubbed bronze. Brassy tones are set to be huge this year, and simply updating your faucets and shower heads can make a massive difference to the overall feel of your bathroom and instantly update it. Think about your accessories as well, and consider replacing or customising your shower curtain rain, and blinds, or finishing touches such as your towel rail. It is this close attention to detail that will make a difference in your bathroom decor.
Keep it simple
White bathroom decor is a huge trend that is here to stay, creating a very clean, and bright space. Give this simple trend a modern twist by using large, oversized tiles. The great thing about larger than average tiles is that they create fewer grout lines and create an optical illusion of a bigger space. This is excellent if you have a smaller bathroom, that you want to appear larger than it is.
White does not have to be boring though, and if feel like your bathroom needs a little bit of colour, you can still convey this popular trend, but include a bright coloured splashback for that little hint of colour. Bright pinks are also set to be incredibly popular in the bathroom in 2016, and looks great as a statement feature. Alternatively, let your artistic side come out, and include one piece of brightly coloured art on your bathroom wall. You will be surprised at how much of an impact a small amount of colour can make.
