My bedroom was a major renovation zone getting painted, a new mattress, a new headboard from Wayfair, etc for most of July. It’s just now starting to look like a bedroom again, but it is far from finished! I haven’t decided what I want over the bed yet, nor have I selected new night stands. I did buy new lamps for the bed side tables from TJMaxx.com, but they haven’t arrived yet. So needless to say, my bedroom looks pretty blah right now…
The Mattress
We’ve been sleeping on our new Layla Mattress for around 3 weeks now and I’m pretty convinced it’s one of the most comfortable mattresses I’ve ever slept on. It arrived in a fairly small box that was easy for us to carry upstairs into our bedroom ourselves. We opened the mattress, took it out of the plastic and put it on our wooden bed frame. Within seconds it looked like a nice fluffy mattress that we promptly laid down on.
My last mattress arrived in a box too, but it took hours for it to return to it’s shape and it smelled horribly of chemicals. We had to let it air out in our garage for almost a week before we were willing to sleep on it. The smell took about a year to go away completely and I never really felt safe sleeping on it because of that. I eventually got a 2 inch memory foam topper and a mattress cover to put over the whole thing. This made the mattress more comfortable and removed the smell. Because of the extra memory foam topper and mattress cover though, it made is very hard to find sheets that would actually stay on the mattress. It was almost 14 inches thick!
Thankfully I don’t have to worry about any of those issues anymore. The Layla mattress is the perfect thickness, has absolutely no detectable smell and find that the soft side of the mattress is perfect for me. (You can flip the mattress over for the firm side!)
The best feature about the Layla mattress is the first copper infused memory foam mattress. Copper is known to reduce joint inflammation which can help ease joint pain and stiffness. This is great for people who have rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. Sleeping on a Lalya Mattress can also improve your blood flow since copper is known to emit a number of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. What better way to improve your sleep and give you the restorative rest you need than helping to improve your blood flow?!
The soft 3″ topper is on the top and the form 1″ topper is on the bottom. We are currently sleeping on the soft side and it’s perfect for us! If we decided to try the firm side, we simply unzip the cover, flip the mattress over and zip the cover back on. I don’t think we will need to do that though!
With the Layla mattress you have nothing to lose. It’s made in the USA, it ships free, it has a lifetime warranty and you can try it out for 4 months, risk free!

The Sheets
On top of my Layla Mattress, I have Ditch The Itch Sheets from Perfect Linens. I really thought bamboo sheets were the epitome of comfort until I tried these sheets. All I can say is WOW. Wow, wow, wow. These sheets are unlike anything I have ever experienced before.
Buying sheets can be complicated, especially if you are buying them online. If you can’t feel them, it’s hard to know what you are buying and if you will really like them. It’s not like picking out pots and pans or oliveri sinks from ABL. Kitchen appliances, sinks, cabinet hardware and even cutting boards are an easy thing to purchase online. However, sheets are a little more complicated, depending on where you shop for sheets. If you get them from Perfect Linens, you can rest assured that you are buying the best and you will not be disappointed.
The Ditch The Itch sheets are absolutely PERFECT for summer. So thin, light, slippery, no sweating, no catching on leg hairs or toes, no getting stuck to them when you roll over, I don’t want to take the sheet off even if I’m hot because they actually feel cool against my skin. Like, wow. Just totally amazed. It’s like they are magical or something. I’m not exaggerating!
What Perfect Linens Says About The Sheets…
“PerfectLinens, a bedsheet retailer which offers a revolutionary new way to shop for sheets, announces the release of extraordinary “Ditch the Itch” bed sheets. The extremely smooth, friction-free sheets are FDA-certified for extremely sensitive skin and intended especially for those suffering from chronic skin conditions. Scientifically proven to reduce scratching and increase sleep duration, “Ditch the Itch” offers relief from the symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, and extremely dry and flakey skin.”
“In order to offer “Ditch the Itch” on their website perfectlinens.com, Thomas’ team of fabric analysts first put the product through rigorous scientific testing. The FEELab (Fabric Engineering and Evaluation Laboratory) identified the few sheets that delivered truly exceptional comfort for those with sensitive skin. Using the same technology as Nike and Under Armour, the analysts unlocked unique comfort characteristics by ensuring the sheets complied with a scientific model. After passing tests with flying colors, “Ditch the Itch” took its place among only ten exceptional products in the company’s online store.”

The sheets are so lightweight and smooth that they are actually slippery! It’s a whole new experience for me since I’m used to cotton or bamboo sheets that tend to stick to each other. While this makes the sheets incredibly comfortable to sleep under, keeping a blanket on the bed has been nearly impossible. This isn’t a problem during the summer when all we need is a sheet anyway, but I’m not sure how these sheets will work for us in the winter, unless I forego the top sheet and just put a duvet on my comforter.
Another things to note is that the king size pillow cases are absolutely enormous. We’re talking, my 6 year old could use this thing as a sleeping bag. They are way too big for our big king size pillows that are average sized so I can’t imagine them being fitted on any normal king size pillows. I’m not sure if this is on purpose? Maybe they are supposed to be oversized? I have no idea! Either way, I’m considering getting two extra standard size pillow cases to put on my king size pillows.
I can’t really complain about these pillow cases in earnest though because the material is just exceptional. For example, one night I went to bed without washing my face. I had a full face of makeup on including foundation, mascara, eyeshadow, the whole 9 yards. The next morning I awoke to find the cotton pillow case on the pillow in the middle of the bed was covered in makeup and black streaks of mascara. The Ditch The Itch pillow case on my pillow, on my side of the bed only had a faint line of mascara on it. I hardly slept on the other pillow but it not only absorbed most of my makeup, it seemed to pull it right off my face as soon as I touched it. The other pillow case barely looked touched. As an added bonus, the Ditch The Itch pillow case came totally clean in the washing machine, despite the 24/7 eyeliner and waterproof mascara, while the cotton pillow case did not.
So, while I was nervous about having SOLID WHITE sheets on my bed, it turns out that these sheets stay cleaner and wash better than your average sheets. For me, that makes them worth every penny.

The Pillows
Let me start off by saying that I am actually very picky about pillows. In the past 15 years, I’ve purchased at least one new pillow every year. I don’t beat my pillows, I’m just always on the prowl for the perfect pillow. I’m pretty sure I’ve finally found the perfect pillow though…
The super comfortable organic memory foam pillow by Essentia.
All of Essentia’s products, including their mattresses, are made from 100% natural memory foam that is created from Hevea milk, essential oils and water. Essentia’s mattresses and pillows are allergy-safe and come with an unbleached organic cotton cover that is soft, breathable and easy to zip off and wash. Essentia’s Organic Comfort Pillow retails for $139 and will give you the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had.
Now personally, I don’t like down feather pillows or faux feather pillows because I’ve found they flatten out too quickly. I also do not like the solid memory foam pillows because they’re way too hard for my petite, little head. Earlier this Spring, I purchased a down alternative pillow from target that claimed to use this “smart fill technology” which apparently is a special memory foam that you reshape and conform to your preference. I didn’t like that at all! I woke up several times during the night to flip the pillow over! After a week of that, I gave the pillow to my daughter and went back to my old, crappy pillow.
Thankfully I got the opportunity to try the Essentia Organic Comfort Pillow. It arrived in a box, wrapped neatly in tissue paper. Unlike other shredded memory foam pillows that I’ve tried, this one did not come rolled up and did not need time to puff up and get fluffy. It was ready to sleep on the moment I took it out of the box.
I was actually quite surprised to find that it is one of the most comfortable pillow I’ve ever slept on! I didn’t wake up during the night to flip, fluff or reposition the pillow. The pillow stayed fluffy and held a perfect shape all night. I’m mostly a side sleeper and I found this pillow to be perfect for that.
I’ve only had this pillow for a little over a week and my darling husband has now stolen it from me and claimed it as his own. I’m now plotting how to get it away from him…
In short, I highly recommend this pillow!!!!
