Now that summer is fast approaching, it’s time for us to retire out comfortable knitwear to the back of our wardrobes and start thinking about what to wear to all those picnics and BBQs. I have combed through all the summer trends and made a list of all the most mom-appropriate wardrobe must-haves.
Crochet
Is there any material more synonymous with summer than crochet? It immediately summons festival vibes like the fantastic Coachella, and by throwing a little crochet vest over a simple t-shirt you will feel like you’re there. It is also an easy way to make a simple jeans and t-shirt outfit more interesting.
Gingham
Quintessentially a picnic print, gingham is venturing beyond the park and into streetwear this year. It comes in a variety of styles too, so there’s bound to be something for everyone. Plus, patterns hide any stains better than plain colored tops – great for us moms with toddlers.
Sunglasses
Hardly revolutionary, but no summer must have list is complete without this staple accessory for hot weather. The list of options is endless, although Prada is one of my favorite brands. Large retro style sunglasses are perfect for those mornings you have to rush out of the door without makeup after a less than restful night. Also, Ray-Ban Juniors are great for smaller faces, so remember to check out options for your children too and protect their eyes from the UV rays.
Rompers
Summer wardrobes are all about ease and throwing on an outfit to get outside in the sunshine. Dresses have traditionally fulfilled this function, but over the last few years jumpsuits and rompers have been catching up. Incredibly comfortable and available in a wide variety of styles, they are a great option for throwing something on and getting out of the door while still looking put together. Simply add a nice bag and shoes and you’re good to go.
Fuchsia
Of course, the summer season requires color and this summer that color is fuchsia. We love dusty rose and baby pink as much as the next person, but hot pink fuchsia is THE hottest trend for summer 2017. The more daring among us can wear the bright color head to toe for a real fashion forward look, but for a more subtle approach incorporate the color using your accessories. An otherwise neutral outfit is instantly more interesting with the addition of a fuchsia shoe or bag.
Kitten Heels
Great news for our tired feet – the kitten heel is back. After a long day of chasing our kids, what could be worse than having to force your feet into an uncomfortable pair of heels to go for dinner? Well, no more! The new heel height is much more wearable and comfortable. Many designers featured the kitten heel on the runway and approved that it is anything but dowdy if done right. So snap up a pair and strut your stuff.
