Spring 2009 Trends: Exposed Midriff!
You heard it here first, ladies. One of the trends for Spring & Summer 2009 is a bare belly, making it more important than ever to be in shape before the flowers start blooming!
Listen, this trend is definitely not for everyone. I don’t want to be mean, but if you’re more than a size 6, don’t even bother with this trend. This one is definitely for skinny women ONLY!
Now, I’m not trying to make you all stop eating and have a body image meltdown here. Some trends aren’t for everyone. Much like skinny and low-rise jeans, you have to have the right body to rock this look. As if muffin tops and back fat wasn’t bad enough, now we have to have a 6-pack as well.
The upside is, at least this will encourage more people to get in shape this year. We know there is a huge obesity epidemic in this nation, so anything to get people to take care of themselves is a good thing.
Who Can Wear This Trend? Skinny women only!
How Do I Wear This Trend? Only after an intensive yoga or pilates session. Ha!
In all seriousness, you can’t just start wearing your bathing suit tops with jeans. Just throwing in a bare belly to your ensemble does not make it trendy. You must do this tactfully and pair it with other statement pieces or fashion trends.
Considering the nature of this trend, I don’t foresee it being a very big hit…

I don’t imagine that the intention was to imply that anyone over a size 6 is obese and/or should try to lose weight, but that did read through a bit to me.
I think it might be worth mentioning that there is an appropriate age as well as body type for wearing this kind of trend as well.
