Spring 2009 Makeup & Beauty Trends

We still have a little while to go before we start wearing the Spring 2009 makeup trends, but if you know about them now, you’ll be able to practice so come May, you’ll have the prettiest face on the block!

The biggest makeup trends for Spring 2009 are as follows:

  • Smokey Eyes
  • Thick, Long Eyelashes (Real or Fake)
  • Pastel Eyeshadows and Blushes
  • Flawless Complexion

It’s all about softness and femininity for spring 2009. High end beauty companies like Christian Dior, Jill Stuart, MAC, and NARS are all releasing pastel collections comprised of soft colors for the eyes. We’re also seeing a bit of glimmery shimmer in the eye palettes as well.

If you don’t like the purple trend, you’re just going to have to suck it up because pruple is going to stick around this Spring. Especially purple eyeshadow, eyeliner and nail polish. We’ll be seeing a lot of violet purple shades of eyeliner and eyeshadow to create a soft, spring-time smoky eye. I am really looking forward to that!

This Spring 2009, it will also be all about BIG eyelashes! If you don’t have them, buy a pair. We saw literally tons of gorgeous false eyelashes on the runway at New York Fashion week. Don’t be scared off by the thought of wearing fake eyelashes though… If you apply them properly, they will add a touch of fantasy to your look. I saw some really pretty ones on MAC. If you’re thinking about trying fake lashes, don’t get cheap ones. You’ll be disappointed.

Flawless skin is always in (heh. That rhymes.) but Spring 2009 is all about the perfect face. You want to moisturize and keep your skin healthy and hydrated. When applying makeup, you want full coverage, especially around the eyes. Your eye makeup won’t stand out if you have big dark circles under your eyes. You want a healthy, dewy, radiant complexion.

Keep blush light and in shades of peach or pastels. You want them sheer and lightweight. No browns or reds. The lighter the better.

Lipstick is the thing for Spring 2009. Glittery, shiny lipgloss is going out. It’s all about the nude and pale lips. Matte lipsticks of flowery pinks, simple nudes, and peachy shades are best. No brown and no more red. Thank goodness!

  1. By right you should apply fake eyelashes using tweezers like a pro.

    Just cut the fake eyelashes into parts ( much easier to stick in). I normally cut it into 2 parts.

    Make sure you leave least 10 seconds for the glue to dry so that it wont get smudges at your real eyelashes.

    You could also use your fingers too. Then push it any parts that wont stick using the end of your tweezers

    Then apply eyeliner and mascara!

  2. False lashes take practice, I highly recomend starting with half lashes and then working up to bigger lashes. Whole huge lashes are frustrating. And at least for me, I definately HAVE to crop MAC lashes my eyes just aren’t that big so if I want them to look semi natural (except them looking super long) I have to crop them to get them to fall right. Also I know this probably goes against other advice but I always have to bond them to my real lashes using a regular mascara. I apply them … curl them… pop on a coat of mascara…. let them dry… recurl…

    It takes a few tries , definately not something that I can do on a regular basis maybe once a month when I have time on my hands. The more I do it the easier/faster its getting though so maybe I’ll be able to wear them on a more regular basis someday. (Then again I like that they are for ‘special’ ocasionas only. :) )
