I recently received the new Lady Speed Stick with Stainguard for review. Mr. Handsome Husband received the men’s version and sweetly agreed to roadtest it for me.
So what’s the story with this new Speed Stick? Here’s the claim:
The new Lady Speed Stick Stainguard and Men’s Speed Stick with Stainguard feature patent-pending Stain Defense™ technology that keeps more antiperspirant on your skin, helping to fight the appearance of yellow stains on your favorite white T.
But does it work?
Well, it’s hard to say after short-term use. To really know how well the Stainguard works, we’d have to carefully compare wear over a long period of time. A few things we were able to determine, though:
Overall, my husband liked his. He’s accustomed to using a gel, so he liked that less Speed Stick came off on his undershirt. It’s important to note that a noticeable bit of this product still rubbed off on his shirt, though, so it wasn’t a perfect solution. However, in general he felt the Speed Stick was more adherent. In fact, he found that he needed to use soap to remove it in the shower since it really won’t wear or wash off on its own. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your perspective, but it supports Speed Stick’s claim that the formulation “keeps more antiperspirant on your skin.”
I found the Lady Speed Stick to be pretty successful in staying put. I wear a lot of black, and always have issues with white deodorant marks showing up where they shouldn’t. Lady Speed Stick outperformed most deodorants I’ve tried in that respect. I still noticed some white residue on the seams of black tops (right under my arms), but it was limited– a big improvement for me.
I actually sweat very little naturally, but even so I’d say this product is a very effective antiperspirant. I particularly noticed that when wearing Lady Spead Stick during my afternoon runs, I barely worked up a sweat. Once again, that’s good or bad depending on your perspective. When I’m exercising, I really like to work up a good sweat (and somehow don’t feel my workout is as fulfilling without it). If you live in a very humid climate, though, or wear a corporate work wardrobe, or just perspire a lot, you might really be into this level of antiperspirant.
The male and female varieties are each available in two scents. For men:
- Fresh– Traditionally masculine and slightly detergent. Lighter and less musky than many men’s deodorants. My husband preferred this scent.
- Clean– Very light, less traditional and slightly sweet. I thought it was really nice.
And for women:
- Daringly Fresh– Feminine, sweet, and faintly floral.
- Powder Fresh– Very baby powder with soapy undertones.
