A wise lady once told me that you should always keep a good funeral dress tucked away in your closet- something unadorned, classic, and elegant. I recently had occasion to remember this when my husband and I received one of those horrible, hateful early morning phone calls. Fortunately, the size and scope of my black dress collection would satisfy even Madame Chanel, so I was covered on that front. But in between scheduling our flights and dashing to the dry cleaner with my husband’s black suit, I realized that my shoe options left something to be desired. Every dark pump I owned smacked of sassiness, and peep-toes and stilettos just didn’t seem appropriate for this somber occasion.
Given my tight schedule, it made sense to spend a few minutes browsing Endless.com. If I could find something cute and reasonable, I could take advantage of the free overnight shipping included with most purchases. If not, I would make do with something I already owned. Almost immediately, I spotted:
Bandolino Balant Pumps in Black Patent
The conservative round toe and manageable heel height (2.5 inches) gave off the subdued impression I was seeking. Plus, the cool brogue stitching and loafer-style detailing on the vamp were pointedly on trend- without being the least bit flashy. And since I can’t ever seem to get enough patent leather, I was sold.
Thirty hours later they were in my hot, little hands, and they did not disappoint! I particularly love how the femininity of the shiny patent and delicate bow contrasts with all the menswear-inspired details.
My wear-time has been limited so far, but I’m also satisfied with their comfort factor. I’ve spent a few hours in them with no complaints- including some serious standing time. Although the look is ideal for professional environments, they’re not comfy enough for a full day on your feet, but they’d be perfect for an office that involves a significant amount of desk time. Be aware that (like many Bandolinos) they run narrow.
I was in such a hurry when I bought them that I didn’t even run a price comparison (a rare, rare omission in my house). I’ve since checked it against other sites and found that at $51.90 Endless does, in fact, have the best price! So if a serious assessment of your shoe wardrobe reveals few choices for job interviews, formal religious observances, and other times when understated is best, the Bandolino Balants are a great option for keeping you sensible and chic.
