With the first episode of Season 9 under our belts, we just can’t help but be SO VERY EXCITED for tonight’s second episode to air (Thursdays at 9/8c on Lifetime). If you didn’t catch the first episode, you can totally watch the full episode at LifetimeTv.com, and be all caught up for tonight.
If you want a recap? Well I’ll give you a quick one. Episode one, we started with 20 new designers which within the first 15 minutes is whittled down to 16. We have some early favorites. Bert Keeter is back in the game after taking a break over 15 years ago. He designed for Bill Blass and some other big names back in the 70s and 80s. There is also Anya Ayoung-Chee, a former Miss Universe contestant who has only been sewing for GASP! 4 months! Other notable first impressions are Anthony Ryan Auld, Becky Ross, Laura Kathleen and Olivier Green. Any way you slice it, the field is impressive and they have only just begun.
As a first challenge, Tim dragged all contestants out of bed with only the clothes on their back and a top sheet. SURPRISE! These were the basic materials that our designers had to work with. Some rose to the occasion while others did not. We see our precious Anya struggle with sewing not only silk, but her first pair of pants… ever. My heart palpitates, hoping she can pull this out.
Looks make it down the runway (PHEW!). Our usual judges Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia are joined by actress Christina Ricci (whose new hair color bufuddled us). They banter back and forth about the usual (taste level, construction, yada yada yada) and come to a decision.
Top 3 looks were from Bert, Anya (YAY!) and Anthony Ryan, who all impressed the judges with their inventive and interesting designs. The judges decided Bert’s super fashionable cocktail dress (made from his boxer shorts) was the winning number.
Bottom three designs were from Rafeal Cox, Joshua Christensen, and Julie Tierney. In the end, it was Rafael Cox who was sent home for some ghastly stretch pants and ill fitted top.
We are totally going to keep you guys up to date on all new episodes and we would love to hear what you think as this season progresses! Did you watch the first episode? What do you think of this season’s designers?
