What are some of the things that you can do to revive your brown lawn and keep it sprouting once more? There are a number of steps you can take to keep a healthy lawn. We shall discuss some of these ways here.
These 5 tips can help you revive your brown lawn:
Getting rid of weeds
If there are weeds that have established on the lawn, these should be gotten rid of. You can uproot the weeds but this requires that all the roots are completely uprooted. You can also use a selective herbicide if you have large areas of the lawn with weeds. These are herbicides that kill the weeds and not the grass. The essence of killing the weeds is that they compete for nutrients and water with the grass, which definitely disadvantages the grass.
Aeration of the soil
Soil aeration is a practice that can help improve water retention in your lawn. When the soil under the grass gets highly compacted as a result of high traffic on the lawn, it becomes hard for it to retain moisture. Give the soil a wriggle by the use of a garden fork. Soil aeration will help improve a brown lawn and have the grass grow afresh.
Water the lawn
Watering the lawn is definitely a good remedy for a browning lawn. Your lawn requires an inch of water on a weekly basis. However, do not overwater the lawn as this could kill the grass that is struggling. You can water the lawn in the evening or in the morning before the sun is hot.
Fertilizing and top dressing
Fertilizing or even top dressing the lawn is a good way to give it the nutrients it requires to grow afresh and remain green. Before you top dress the lawn, you need to trim it and ensure that the trimming is even. You can choose a slow release granular fertilizer because this will give the grass the feed it requires over an 8 to 10-week period.
Replace the dead grass
There are areas in your lawn that could be beyond repair. You only need to dig out the dead grass and replace it with replacement sod. Get the exact grass for a replacement since mismatched grass will not look appealing. If there are small spots, you can seed these or sow runners from the healthy parts of the lawn.
